Upper Bt Timah Road Floodgate & Rochor Canal Redirection Works

I don't support the death penalty. But I think the people responsible should at least pay the people affected - their multi-million dollar salaries should be put to some use. My own losses are small but my heart goes out to those who've lost a lot more.

U forgot to include 6 NSmen with marksmanship badges for the firing squad of the dumb mofo who caused this. By the way, don't bother Rajendran, lah. The poor guy already give up millions of dollars in lost salary at Khattar Wong to be HC judge. Let him lelac lah.

basically PUB will probe & eventually point finger at LTA & URA for the works that cause the flood, then LTA & URA will point fingers at the contractors who're doing the works for failure to redirect the water properly. then NEA & Nparks will joing forces with LTA & URA to gangbang the contracting company, then when the company kena bankrupt, the works are incomplete, and wait for the next cheaper contractor to come in & clean up the mess.

if the same thing repeats itself in the next downpour, they get another chance to gangbang the contractors.

And the finger will finally and invariably be pointed to Sporns' botak heads. And the conclusion is that the Ministers need to be paid more and more committees need to be formed. Till Sporns know how to perform the simple act of voting wisely in the GE.

There's another observation I'd forgotten to make. The flood level remained high and still for a good half an hour (from 1115h to 1145h) despite the fact the rain had subsided substantially.

Then quite suddenly, as if someone pulled a plug, the water started rushing out. And it returned to fairly normal levels in about 20 mins.

Perhaps, someone did pull a plug that should not in the first place have been there in the first place. The ones responsible for putting that plug there must pay.

Totally agree.
And if they suffered inconvenience and loss of face, all the better.
It's time that these guys realized that they need to be accountable for everything negative that happens in this country, especially after they get paid such humongous world class salaries.

hmmmmmmm perhaps Old Man will quietly intervene to stop too nosey pokinh of noses into the matter of Orchard Rd catchment drains & tunnels ....

He is worried someone may discover the tip-top secret tunnel he has built aeons ago connecting his basement at Oxley Rise to his office at Istana ....

My Theory?

Construction of ION, Orchard Central & 313 Somerset, especially the latter two has covered up the canal underneath & some earth must have caused huge blockage inside ....

ok lah, maybe not :D

SINGAPORE : Singapore's national water agency, PUB, has said the flood in parts of Orchard Road on Wednesday was caused by choked drains underneath roads in the area.

At a news conference on Thursday, PUB explained that thorough investigations done by its officers found that debris was found trapped inside the culvert of Stamford Canal.

It said the heavy downpour caused debris to build up and get trapped in a drain near Delfi Orchard.

The culvert of Stamford Canal diverts water from Nassim and Cuscaden Road into two sections of Stamford Canal, which runs along Orchard Road.

The heavy build-up of debris partially trapped in the culvert caused the rainwater to be diverted to only one of two canals running beneath Orchard Road. And this caused water in the canal to overflow into Orchard Road.

PUB said the drain's capacity is adequate as it has handled previous rains of similar intensity.

It will be stepping up the frequency of maintenance inspections of critical closed drains.

It will also increase its maintenance inspections to monthly checks.

Currently, it inspects drains every three to six months.

PUB will also install more litter traps along Stamford Canal to prevent the build-up of debris, and more water-level sensors along Stamford Canal to enable closer monitoring of unusual peaks and dips in water levels. - CNA/ms

sorri ah...post 3 times...think sammyboy veli busy...alwes say down

The PUB together with the Presstapo still behaves as though only Orchard Rd was flooded. They completely ignore the inundation of Newton, Novena, Kg Java and Little India.

This must at least partly be because flooding in those areas is inconvenient to their lie of ONE clogged culvert.

There also clear attempts to keep the issue off the pages and airwaves asap.

We musn't let them do this. Could someone please start a petition or a poll to demand an independent inquiry? I'd do it myself but I don't know how to.
