whole shbang unravelled with bill clinton convincing ukraine to forego her nuclear arsenal (thanks to soviets placing it near nato for 1st strike). the kremlin tricked clinton to get ukraine off nuclear arms capability after the soviet union broke apart with gorbachev in charge. it could still use nuclear for power. part of the clinton deal is that one day ukraine can join the west and later nato. the shit started brewing once the dems were in control of the white house.
entire russian reinforcement convoy heading towards a town (Oktyabr'skoe) in kursk was ambushed and annihilated. now kremlin is sending in their reserves. ukraine will not likely stay and occupy. they are probably causing a panic at the kremlin and relieving pressure off the ukraine fronts. may be in anticipation of no more american support before and after the erection. thus must have sumting to show for after raking in so much aid. and get some russian territory no matter how small before negotiations.

That is the official story. The real story is that the Russians, Americans and NATO don't trust nukes in the hands of the Ukrainians. The Ukrainians are so corrupt, they were more likely to sell the warheads under the table to a rogue country or to muslim terrorists. Or money for the upkeep and maintenance of the nuke arsenal would likely have been siphoned off and the nukes end up in disrepair. Which is just as bad.

It's times like this you need huge numbers of propeller attack aircraft, cheap to build and still very effective. Jets are too cumbersome, expensive and too much b time in maintenance.
