Unlocking a samsung phone - advice needed please.

Has anyone here unlocked a Samsung Galaxy Mini before?

I travel frequently & would like to buy prepaid sim card in other countries but my Galaxy Mini is locked, so I am unable to use the sim card.

google said that you have to root your device, but you might brick your device instead. So, i suggest you pay someone in SLS to do it.

Deblocare network S5570 Samsung Galaxy Mini

Rootati tel-ul cu superoneclick, instalati superuser, terminal emulator. Cu terminal emulator executati urmatoarele comenzi:
su
dd if=/dev/block/stl5 of=/sdcard/stl5.rfs
Copiati in calculator fisierul stl5.rfs. Instalati MagicIso cu care deschideti stl5.rfs. In directorul MITS gasiti fisierul PERSO.txt. Deschideti cu notepad sau view cu dreapta mouse si veti gasi in partea de jos un cod din 8 cifre. Notati-l.
Deschideti terminal emulator si dati comanda:
su
dd if=/sdcard/stl5.rfs of=/dev/block/stl5
Dati restart. Lasati sa porneasca cu sim-ul original, dati restart.
Puneti sim-ul nou, porniti, va apare un ecran in care veti introduce cele 8 cifre. Aveti mare grija la introducere sa nu gresiti. Apare mesaj ca ati deblocat cu succes codul de retea.
Succes.


SAFE METHOD

Perhaps it is better practise to follow this road for getting the codes:
- adb shell
- su
- dd if=/dev/block/stl5 of=/sdcard/stl5.rfs
Then use ULTRAISO or similar to examine /sdcard/stl5.rfs as FAT16 image file.
mits/perso.txt.
Nonetheless, there's nothing special regarding VF Ro users or any other network carriers. I just followed these steps:

dd if=/dev/block/stl5 of=/sdcard/stl5.rfs
Copied the stl5.rfs on my computer, opened it up with WinImage (obviously, any other application that can read FAT images would work just as good) and went to /mits/perso.txt.
It's full of gibberish, but do keep in mind that the 8-digit number is the unlock code. Note it down on a paper or something, power down the phone, get its sim out, power it on (don't insert any other sim). Mine went to ARM11 recovery mode (shows the samsung logo and says that on the top left). Should it do that, just throw the battery out and back in, then power it up again. The phone will boot up normally and now run

dd if=/sdcard/stl5.rfs of=/dev/block/stl5
wait for it to end, power down the phone, insert a sim that would send the phone in its network locked mode, and se that 8-digit number. That's all about it, you now have an unlocked phone.

I was hoping if there was another method besides the tip from Google.

I saw the video from FastGSM & one has to pay for the unlock code. I do not know how trustworthy this is. Any bros have any advice please?

look like some cheap samsung phone have unlock code, but your phone is an android phone, no such easy fix, but you just need to learn some unix and computer skill.
In 2007, i uses unix command to jail break the first iphone.
Later some one wrote a program to unlock with one application. But i did it the hard way.

My main concern is what happens if my attempt is unsuccessful & my Galaxy Mini becomes "bricked". Does it then mean that I am unable to use it anymore?

Yes, probably means you have to send back to samsung, and tell them you dun know what happen, it just die.

Hey, you know what is the strangest thing? I'm in Samsung's home country & when I walked in to one of their service centres to inquire about using my Galaxy Mini (from Singapore) in Korea using a local sim card, it was translated to me by the service centre that it can't be done. What do you make of it?
It seems to me they either do not want to help a foreigner or they do not want to unlock the phone.

they are right, the jailbreak is an illegal hack call root. if you knew you are going oversea, why not buy a unlock phone.

To make a short story (about why I did not buy an unlocked phone), I was back in Singapore & my then-Sony phone crashed. So I went to M1 & was told that a re-contract will entitle me to a new phone. So I thought, ok, why not? So I got my new Samsung Galaxy Mini.

That's how I started this thread.

You can unlock your Samsung Galaxy mini by getting the unlock code and instruction from an online vendor like Classicunlocking.com .To get the service you need to submit the country name,network name and IMEI number.
