Typhoons usually crated in the Pacifics and sweeps from east towards west according to the momentum against planet earth's self-rotation, it follows self-rotation with a lag and falls behind the rotation usually. Hence it looks alike moving against the self-rotation, but it actuality, it follows partially with a latency.
Usually they will weaken at landfall and slow down and subside.
But Not this time. It stays, it turn back from west to east and STRENGTHEN at the sea! It is picking up more energy and speed.

The typhoon standby signal No 1 was issued on Monday afternoon as Hong Kong was buffeted by showers, gusts and a thunderstorm.

The Hong Kong Observatory put the standby signal up at 3.40pm – the second time this month.
“A tropical cyclone is centred within 800km of Hong Kong and may affect us,” the Observatory said.
“Please consider changes in weather when planning activities. Beware that strong winds may occur over offshore waters.”
According to the Observatory, a tropical depression was 470km southwest of Hong Kong at 2pm, though maps on its website projected the storm would head west towards Guangxi and Yunnan provinces in mainland China.
It also warned of strong winds over offshore waters and high ground. A thunderstorm warning had also been in effect since 1.55pm.
The Observatory said it was expecting thunderstorms and gusts of more than 70km/h to blow over the city.
It urged the public to seek shelter and “take precautions against violent gusts”.
Last Tuesday, the typhoon signal No 3 was in effect as Tropical Storm Son-Tinh brought thunderstorms to the city.

天文台預測熱帶低氣壓將「番轉頭」向東移向近珠江口。(天文台)
1號戒備信號仍然生效，今早(12日)在廣東西部沿海一帶徘徊的熱帶低氣壓，於昨日(11日)中午登陸陽江市後未有進一步消散，反而返回南海重整，天文台更預測該熱帶低氣壓將「番轉頭」向東移向近珠江口，周二(14日)凌晨增強為熱帶風暴，並於香港西南約200公里掠過，屆時未知會否發出更高的熱帶氣旋警告。
在上午8時，位於廣東西部沿岸的熱帶低氣壓集結在香港之西南偏西約290公里，預料移動緩慢，在廣東西部沿海一帶徘徊。天文台表示，該熱帶低氣壓的路徑較為飄忽，預料1號戒備信號將會在今早維持，香港今日間中會有大驟雨及狂風。
天文台在今早5時15分一度發出黃色暴雨警告，於6時45分取消。上午8時氣溫為27度，相對濕度96%，過去1小時京士柏錄得的平均紫外線指數是0.2，強度屬於低，雷暴警告現正生效。預測香港今日多雲，間中有狂風驟雨及幾陣雷暴，雨勢有時頗大，日間氣溫徘徊在27度左右，吹和緩至清勁東至東南風，離岸及高地間中吹強風，展望未來一兩日仍有驟雨及雷暴。
