SINGAPORE : Police have arrested two Malaysian men aged 21 and 17 for their suspected involvement in a spate of thefts of motorcycle parts.
The thefts took place at Changi Airport's public car parks.
In January, airport police received eight reports of theft of brake calipers.
Police started piecing information by reviewing CCTV footage and ground surveillance.
The thieves struck mostly at night and mainly targeted larger powered motorcycles.
Both men will be charged in court on Tuesday.
If convicted, they could be jailed up to seven years and fined.
Police said that in the first nine months of last year, there were 243 cases of motor vehicle thefts - a 60 per cent increase compared to the year before.
Sofian Salleh, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Singapore Police Force, said: "We spare no effort against criminals and we will prosecute them in court in accordance to the law.
"Despite this arrest, we advise the community, especially motorcycle owners, to be vigilant and take preventive measures to protect their motorcycles."
