SINGAPORE - Two male suspects aged 38 and 47 have been arrested by the police for disorderly behaviour, in two separate incidents.

In the first case, the police were alerted to an incident where a drunken man was causing nuisance at Block 177 Boon Lay Drive on June 11, at about 8.00 pm.

Officers who responded saw the 38-year-old man having an aggressive dispute with a couple. Repeated attempts by the officers to calm the man down failed despite multiple warnings.

The man was subsequently placed under arrest for disorderly behaviour in a public place.

In the second case, a 47-year-old man entered Nanyang Neighbourhood Police Centre on June 12 at about 1.20am under the pretext of seeking police assistance, but ended up verbally abusing and gesticulating with his fists at the officers.

The man later pushed one of the police officers in the chest, and was arrested for disorderly behaviour in a public place, abusing a public servant, using criminal force against public servant and vandalism.

Investigation for the first case is currently ongoing. The 47-year-old man in the second case will be prosecuted in Court on June 13.

Anyone found behaving in a disorderly manner public place can face a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month. Anyone found to be abusing a public servant, faces a fine not exceeding S$5000, or imprisonment not exceeding one year.

As for the offence of using criminal force against public servant, if convicted, a person may face an imprisonment term which may be extended to 4 years, or with fine or both. As for the offence of vandalism, if convicted, a person may face a fine up not exceeding $2,000 or to an imprisonment term not exceeding 3 years and shall also be liable for caning with not less than 3 strokes and not more than 8 strokes.
