Man, 51, arrested at Changi Airport for allegedly stealing credit card & cash from passenger's wallet on flight
A passenger saw the man allegedly taking a bag from the overhead bin and rummaging through it.
A male Chinese national, 51, was arrested on Mar. 17 for his suspected involvement in a case of theft onboard an aeroplane.
The Singapore Police Force said it was alerted to an alleged theft on a flight en route to Singapore on Mar. 17 at around 12:20am.
A passenger saw the man allegedly take a bag from the overhead bin while the victim was away from their seat.
The man brought the bag to his seat and rummaged through it.
The passenger also saw the man hide the victim's belongings in his jacket before returning the bag to the overhead compartment.
The passenger then alerted the victim of the suspected theft.
Upon checking his belongings, the victim discovered that a credit card, S$200 and RM100 (S$29.93), was missing from his wallet.
Once the plane landed at Changi Airport, the victim disembarked the plane and searched for the man based on the passenger's description while calling the police.
He eventually located the man within the transit area, and officers from the Airport Police Division arrested him.
The man will be charged in court on Mar. 18, and if found guilty of theft, he could face three years imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The police also provided a reminder to members of the public to protect themselves from being victims of crime on board an aircraft, saying:
"Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
