Two masters degrees, but rejected from course

Anyone wonder why one has to jump through hoops for the privilege to attend a course that you have to pay(not free) to be a part-time tourist guide

In many places tourist guides are DIY & are usually self employed. I think Sporeans are dumb to pay $$$ just for a piece of paper

Ms Sindy Wong, 47, holds two masters degrees, but was rejected from part-time course for being too "arrogant".

Armed with two Masters' degrees, Ms Sindy Wong never thought she would run into problems when she wanted to upgrade herself by enrolling in a part-time course at the Tourism Management Institute of Singapore (TMIS).

She had signed up for the course as she hoped to land a permanent job, which would provide some relief from the considerable financial burden.

Therefore, the process is stringent to weed out "unsuitable students who will end up wasting even more time and money", said a spokesperson for TMIS.

Proud and aloof

Additional reports by the Chinese daily revealed that two interviewers who assessed Ms Wong said she had failed because she was proud and aloof.

Above are the few points that caught my eyes.

We have here a desperate divorced mother whom is fighting for survival to provide for her 2 sons...do we see anything wrong with this so far? The answer has got to be a No.

She took up a course, a Government funded course in high hopes (probably her only hope) of getting a new job to provide for her family. Is there anything wrong with her motive? Well, the answer has got to be a no too.

TMIS has found her loud and aloof, hence her application was being rejected and her $107 registration fees not return to her. Do we see anything wrong here?

No, nothing wrong?

Well, I have some queries..

(A) Can anyone here pass an examination without first taking up a course?

(B) Is it not TMIS's mission and job to train people to become professionals in the tourism industry - So, how long do we need to train our SIA girls..weeks? months? Nope, the training is ongoing, everyday service staff from service industry learns.

(C) Other than the candidate being "loud and aloof", does she have any other character flaws?

(D) How would future candidates know if they could "pass" TMIS's selection process before they put down $107 to try try?

(E) Are the selection criteria being clearly spelt out during registration?

(F) What is the selection process, and how is it being conducted?

I think TMIS should let the public know to prevent future occurrences, after all there is Government monies being involved here.

it's pathetic how sinkies can't string a sentence in Chinese without lacing it with English words.

it sounds like shit to the China and Taiwanese tourists. they really cringe when they hear sinkies speak.

If it is stated very clearly in black and white that "loud and aloof" people should not sign up and will fail the interview, I can guarantee you no one will think that they themselves are loud and aloof even if they are.

Arrogant people should not sign up for the course. Will anyone who sign up the course think they are arrogant

big deal about 2 master. i had seen phd taxi drivers

middle-aged sinkies I see everywhere are generally arrogant and carry the lao-lan attitude. I stopped patronising some hawker stalls because of their attitude, taxi rides feel like hell most times and you will be very lucky if you live with gracious neighbours. the uncles sitting around coffeeshops all look like fuck.
