I said in a previous thread that it would be a steep learning curve for Amos in America.
Growing up in repressive Singapore, he'd had this idealized airy-fairy notion that free speech meant the licence to say anything, including the right to extol paedophilia or genocide.
It's a reality check for him now. It's an irony: the very liberal elements who support his right to talk about LGBT or abortion rights are also the harshest when it comes to bearing down on paedophilia, sexism and ageism. Way more so than the conservatives, who turn a blind eye to sexual harassment, racial profiling and abortion shootings. Try denying the Holocaust to the face of a Jewish liberal from California.
So, even in the land of the free, free speech has its limits. And the limits are largely defined by ideology and culture within different segments of the population.
One thing is sure, though: Amos will learn a lot more (and faster) in the US than had he remained here.
I don’t think it has anything to do with Singapore. He is unusual in many ways. It could one or both of the parents not correcting him early or could not correct him.
A mix of both innate traits and the environment (parents & society), as always. He is very talented, well-read, imaginative, but also extremely self-centered, more so than many teens I've come into contact with, even in our Westernized society.
Being fed a constant diet of American movies and YouTube videos has also helped exaggerate his idealized notion of the US (remember he wasn't well-travelled) as a land of emancipation. It hit him hard when he landed in prison for 9 months upon arrival, and no one gave him a damn, not even the free press.
Combine a free spirit, self-centeredness, and an authoritarian society and you have a potent cocktail for destructive rebellion.
But having established himself officially as Singapore 1st e-Beggar
Amos looks worried in the video. The Amos in the past did not give a "flying fuck" over negative opinions. But having established himself officially as Singapore 1st e-Beggar, it seems that he now fears public opinion.
He keeps on harping on pedo. He will screwed himself totally.
His YouTube career is officially over as far as I can tell. He should have done more on bashing PAP and sg govt but he harp on pedo.. What the hell.
Pedo is a negative emotional term which equate to child rape and abuse, no matter what your logical reasoning is, that is how people perceive the "pedo" term to be. I thought he was smarter than this.
Agree. The irony is the country where he loathes most is the country where its people will crowdfund him to the hilt, provided he sticks to the topic that made him famous - bashing the establishment. He has a captive audience if he stays within the perimeters of that topic. That's where his money tree grows.
I don't think many people will be interested in his views on other social topics.

Wonder for the penny to drop.
Surely someone as smart as him knows he's not doing himself any favours by behaving like this?
