TVB to let go Jacqueline Wong

10 Nov – TVB has reportedly dropped Jacqueline Wong, a year following her scandal with married singer Andy Hui.

As reported on Singtao, despite TVB keeping hopes that the controversy would quiet down after a long hiatus - with her dramas being either shelved or had her replaced with different actresses - it was revealed that the company has decided not to renew Jacqueline's contract when it expires in two months' time.

It is noted that the broadcaster recently decided to air her previously shelved "The Offliners" in 2021, with sources claiming that the drama's viewership will determine whether or not Jacqueline could make her comeback.

However, it looks like TVB has instead decided to let her go before the drama could air.

When asked about it, Jacqueline only responded, "I will tell everyone if there is an update. Thank you for your concern."

On the other hand, another TVB artiste Jackson Lai was also reported to have been fired from the company, following his previous extra-marital affair with his co-star Ashley Chu.

When prodded for response, TVB executive Virginia Lok stated that she has yet to find the time to sit down with the two actors, but that she would like to understand their situation further. She also admitted that both Jacqueline and Jackson are currently on unpaid leave.

16 Nov – After surprising many with the news that she will be getting married, Jennifer Yu recently announced that she and her partner Tim have officially tied the knot.

On 15 November, the actress posted a video from her wedding on social media, and wrote, "Meeting you is my greatest blessing. Today we officially became a husband and wife, and I will have an additional identity as Mrs Lu."

"Thank you everyone who comes today. I will always remember that you share this joy with me, and thank everyone who has sent blessings," she added.

The wedding was actually held at the Peninsula Hotel on 14 November, though it was a small ceremony attended by less than 100 guests - among them include bridesmaids Fish Liew, Eunice Chan, Yoyo Tang, and her sister Zoe Yu.

Jennifer, however, is still keeping mum on rumours that she is currently pregnant with her first child.

20 Nov – Despite previously rumoured to have left TVB in the midst of her forced hiatus due to her earlier DUI, Vicky Chan recently made an appearance at the TVB 53rd Anniversary Gala Show.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who performed on her harp at the event held on 19 November, was all smiles when approached by the media, revealing that she is waiting for TVB to make the arrangements when it comes to her work on the long-running show, "Come Home Love - Lo and Behold".

Asked if her appearance at the event meant that TVB is slowly easing her back into the limelight, Vicky reiterated her response that she is still waiting for the notice.

"I have been living on my savings for half a year. It's almost exhausted now," she said.

Vicky, who has also been focusing on her role as a social media influencer since her hiatus, stated that she will continue to promote her brand even after returning to work with TVB.

Asked if it would be hard for her to balance everything, she responded, "It's all fine. I am just happy to be able to communicate with everybody through various channels."

It was back in October last year that Vicky was arrested for driving under the influence. She was fined HKD 5,000 and had her driving license suspended for 12 months for her first misdemeanour. She was also required to undergo a driving improvement course.

Former Cantopop star and TVB actress Gigi Lai turned to business and property – how did Hong Kong’s ‘Goddess of Beauty’ build and spend her fortune?

Gigi Lai Chi is a well-known Hong Kong actress under contract to the TVB television channel, dubbed by the media as the "Goddess of Beauty". Gigi was born to a family of filmmakers and movie stars of the early 20th century, but started out as a singer, releasing albums in Cantonese and Mandarin.

After moving into acting, she appeared in dramas and films, rising to prominence in early 2000 after her performance in TVB series The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber.

Then, in 2008, she shocked the media by suspending her career to take care of her brother Stephen Li's skin care business after he had been involved in a serious car accident.

Gigi dropped another bombshell in February 2009 when she tied the knot with billionaire businessman, Patrick Ma Ting-kung, a family member of the Oriental Press Group, Hong Kong's largest media group. He bought a US$9 million duplex unit in Branksome Grande, in Hong Kong's affluent Mid-Levels neighbourhood, as a wedding gift and sent her to a private hospital in Sydney, Australia, when she fell pregnant in 2010.

Following on from her entertainment career, Lai started a cosmetics business CosMax which she floated as Miricor Enterprises Holdings Limited on the Hong Kong stock exchange in 2017, becoming the CEO and chairwoman of a medical beauty enterprise worth US$29 million.

Besides her business, Lai also has built up a portfolio of properties. With an estimated net worth of US$13 million, she spent US$5.7 million in 2017 on a high-rise flat with a parking space, also in Mid-Levels, in a building named the Tavistock II.

The unit has a usable area of 1,282 square feet and was bought by the original owner for US$3 million in 2007.

According to local media, Lai also bought other luxury flats including a house in Repulse Bay named The Beachfront for US$12.6 million, and a duplex unit in The Tregunter for US$36 million in 2007.

In 2010, hubby Patrick spent US$1.9 million on a 62-foot yacht and named it Bonheur, meaning "happiness" in French.
