True Son of Singapore Ho Juan Thai
(Mr Ho Juan Thai was WP's GE1976 candidate for Bukit Panjang. He was accused by the PAP of making speeches inciting the Chinese-speaking to violence on the language issue. The Internal Security Department came to arrest him after the elections, but was fortunate to escape the arrests)
Mr Low Thia Khiang called me yesterday asking whether I'll be interested to meet a WP veteran, Mr Ho Juan Thai in JB that very night? Intrigued, I readily agreed to his invitation. Together with Choong Yong, Mr Low & I set off in a vehicle at about 10pm. Due to heavy traffic we only managed to reach the JB hotel lobby at about 11plus. Mr Ho welcomed us heartily and we proceeded for drinks.
Mr Ho showed us his passport which was issued by the UK government under the UN 1952 Geneva Convention for Refugees. He shared that the UK government has offered him several times UK citizenship but he declined their offers, explaining to them, that he is Singaporean and will always be so.
We also chatted at length about the state of affairs of Singapore society. What struck me was Mr Ho's sincere passion for Singapore society, his stubborn loyalty to his Singaporean identity and his deep concerns about the future of Singapore. At one point, he gazed into the distance and expressed his deep desires to return to Singapore.
In a city of possibilities, it is such a paradox that a Singaporean is tagged as a refugee. I am of the view that Mr Ho Juan Thai was NEVER and is NOT an internal security threat to Singapore. The PAP regime MUST immediately drop all its allegations on Mr Ho and welcome this true son of Singapore back home.
* The author has written to MHA (ISD) to enquire about its current position on Mr Ho.
