Traveling to new york and LA

Dear seasoned travellers out there,

I would like to take a 2 weeks trip to new york and LA...what is the best way to go about doing it? Is it more economical to:

(i) Fly to LA, then get a domestic flight to NY
(ii) Fly to NY, then get a domestic flight to LA

Does anyone know which is the cheapest airline to NY from SG, and what about hotel rates? Which is the best month to go NY?

Thank you all for your kind advice.

Go by the South China Sea way. Go to NY first, then LA. Like that when you come home, no need change flight second time.

I'd suggest taking a flight from Singapore to NY on the Pacific route via Narita. Choose LA for entry point in the US. Transit at LA without stopover onwards to NY. Spend 6 days in NY. On return trip, request 6 days stopover at Los Angeles before returning to Singapore.

Check with NWA and UA, and compare their prices, including stopover surcharges. Since you're going multiple cities in the US, there's not much point flying with non-US airlines, incurring more scheduling inconvenience and extra charges with domestic flight transfers.

If you're not used to winter, from now to March is about the worst time to go to NY; you'd feel too frozen stiff to enjoy yourself. April onwards is OK. However, bear in mind, airfares and hotel rates also go up from April.

For decent hotels in cities like LA and NY, be prepared to pay about US$150 to 200 per night, depending on season and location.

All hotels even the most disgusting ones are expensive in New York. Suggest you stay in Jersey City and commute by train into NYC.

Even those that look decent from the outside are all shit inside. It's really gross and unacceptable. Be prepared to pay upwards of USD 300 per night for anything remotely decent in NYC (Manhattan area).

if you're going to nyc in december for pleasure, you must be fucking out of your mind. i was there for business a couple of weeks ago, and it was just below freezing.

if you are truly stubborn and stupid, and wish to stay there, hang around the midtown area. there's a reasonable hotel (red roof inn) on 32nd that charges up to usd200 during winter. otherwise if you're on a budget, like someone suggested, stay on the jersey side and take the path train into wtc or 33rd street and transfer to the metro subway. the subway is the best form of transport in nyc.

sq has a direct flight to newark. from newark, you can fly to l.a. on the return trip, and from l.a. to sg. sq codeshares with united, and you should be able to book a united flight from newark to l.a. on the same sq itinerary.

daylight is too short during winter. summer in nyc is too hot and humid. the best time is spring, when days are longer, and weather is warmer but not humid.

spring in california is great only when you are immune to plant and pollen allergies.
