The 43-year-old Bollywood star, who shot to fame in the UK when she appeared - and won - Celebrity Big Brother in 2007 posted a scathing rant aimed at Australian airline Qantas, claiming that she was treated 'curtly' by an employee who didn't like 'brown people'

Part of the lengthy post Shetty, who has a huge profile in her native India, posted about the row on Instagram. Qantas replied on Twitter expressing an apology for her experience with the airline

In the post, which has now been seen by 269,000 people, Shetty name-checked Qantas, saying: 'This should get your attention! Travelling from Sydney to Melbourne and at the check in counter met a grumpy #Mel (that’s her name) who decided it was "OK" to speak curtly to "US" (Brown people!!) travelling together.

The mother-of-one, flying business, explained that she the employee told her to go to the oversized counter after deeming her 'half empty Duffel bag' too large for the cabin.

She explains: There a polite lady (yes this one was) said: "this ISN'T an oversized bag, pls check this in manually if u can at another counter.'

However, Shetty claims that when she returned to the original employee, she was refused again: 'Just being adamant especially when I told her this is causing a lot of inconvenience. We had no time to waste so we ran to the oversized baggage counter and requested her to put the bag through which she did after I told her that #Rude #Mel had issues!

Shetty after winning Celebrity Big Brother; her appearance on the show in 2007 caused a national outcry after she was subjected to racism by a fellow contestant, the late Jade Goody, prompting some 54,000 complaints to Ofcom

She said that her missive on social media was to make the airline aware of how she'd been treated. She wrote: 'Their staff must be taught to be helpful and TONE can’t change with preference to #COLOUR.

'"WE" are NOT #pushovers and they MUST know that being #callous and #Rude will NOT BE TOLERATED.' She ended with a series of hashtags including: '#truthmustbetold #standup #equality #whatswrongisnotright'.

After seeing a tweet from Shetty about the incident, Qantas apologised for her experience, writing: 'We're sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience with us today Shilpa. We have passed your feedback on to the relevant team and we hope that you have a great experience with us onboard! Khalid'

MailOnline has contacted Qantas for comment.

Shetty, 41, is one of Bollywood's most talked-about and photographed figures despite not having broken through in any major film roles. She is married to businessman Raj Kundra and the couple have one son together.

Curry nah....this bag how to become cabin bag?

In Ozland. Oversized or odd size luggage like golf bags etc must be checked in at another counter. All travellers have to do it. The ozland airport would not give a damn otherwise. In Yankee land since 9/11. If u argue etc u Kenna extra search...so she is being unreasonable in her comments n attitudes. Other countries do have better service but in ozland u can go get Fucked if u not happy. All travellers go through that shit.

She's oversensitive. The pilot told ginfreely his plane is too small for her hangar and she was fine with it. She asked him to park 2 planes inside.
