Self -radicalised 20-year-old NSman detained under ISA

SINGAPORE : Authorities have arrested a self-radicalised Singaporean under the Internal Security Act (ISA) and put two others under Restriction Orders.

20-year-old Muhammad Fadil Abdul Hamid was detained on April 4. He is a full-time national serviceman in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) who drew most of his ideas from the Internet. .....

It is indeed chilling for Sporeans to read that there like-minded people like Fadil who could easily turn against his NS comrades in the SAF. It is no more that sucker in this Forum who keeps on harping that NS is killing him. It is a question of NS could be killing many other people - just a pulling of the grenade pin or a O.5 degree off the howitzer, and many more could perish.

It appears that the SAF has unwittingly helped, in this instance, to train terrorists. Now people will understand why at one time the SAF was rather reluctant to put key position in the hands of some people.

What happens, as in the case now, when their religious calling is higher than the SAF Code of Conduct, or the National Education Message or Total Defence Messages? Singapore has to remain vigilant and not take the peace and harmony for granted.

Don't worry, SAF NSF training is of sub-standard compared to 'real' armies. I have seen professional soldiers, for example in a third world country, whose soldiers are worthy of being very impressive in terms of bearing, discipline and fitness.

The whole SAF NSF is a bunch of softies - my frank humble opinion.
