So the SEA Games have come & gone...
James Wong's discus gold & Men's 4x100 silver very heartwarming to me ...
PingPong's Gao Ning's loss in men's doubles gave me a 'serve-you-right' satisfaction.
At the end of the day, of course all these are subjective prejudice, nothing really malicious.
Now for my Top 2 Pet Hates - Lee Bee Wah * Loh Lin Kok.
Ok, let Er Lee off this round... she can't help herself - poor PR & personality but still she shows effort (though the anti LiuGuoDong fix is disappointing).
BUT LOH LIN KOK is the VETERAN RECALCITRANT that's very enduring.
Now MSM have focussed their guns on him - PAP/Govt also from V.Balakrish to Teo Ser Luck to SEA Games chef-de-miss Phua to SSC Oon to Sports Editors at TODAY & Straits Times.......
All saying - SAA buck up - in effect, Loh Lin Kok - step down....
But of course, sports international have their own politics & bureacracy - Garmen can't interfere too much.
e.g. FIFA have suspended many national bodies becos they say their Garmen kacheow with appointees - e.g. in Brunei, Iraq etc.
So, in Spore, you see more & more NSA officials very tokong in climbing up the slippery pole & scale their international organization charts....
Cos since Spore can't produce many champion sportsmen, they can prodcuce world class officials (aka bureacrats).
Some are cool like Ng Ser Miang - others well....
So sailing, bowling, atheletics etc etc local bosses have won promoinent positions on their respective international federations....
Loh Lin Kok also has considerable clout in IAAF - his experience & legal training not fly-by-night.....
So Garmen can't just topple him - though if he gone, they & 99% Sporeans will be very happy....
I dunno what is Loh's motivation - but most likely suffering from Messiah Syndrome. Thinks only he can save SAA becos no one else is competent enuf.
But seriously, I am terribly sick of him.
Growing up, read on-off his battles with challengers to the presidency, his legal scraps with all the notable Spore Sprint Talents.... his legal case against his China imports, his blame game against his former CEO etc etc
No he has hired Steven Yeo as CEO to be SAA's spokesman so he can stay in background...
But seriously, my heart bleeds for Spore athletics....
James Wong (who also have experienced Loh b4) is a rare throwing talent in SEA - at 40 still reigning for 20+ years over SEA games competitors... his whole being is in the Sport his life - his schorlarship, his career now, his wife -- everything has to do with his sporting passion--- he is a Field Icon in Spore.
Pity sprint stars over the years - Md Hosni, Hamkah, U Shyam etc never fully blossom into the next Kunalan....
Now going into 2010 & Spore marathon taken away from SAA, can Loh Lin Kok be invited to step down ?
SAA AGM is the legitimate process - but who are the leaders of affiliate clubs who form what Teo Ser Luck calls the 'athletics fraternity'.
In their hands, lies Spore Athletics fate ....
Are they conscientious or cronyistic...
Are there alternative leaders (like Tang in 2004 or Edmond Periera in the past? - how about Kunalan the people's choice?)....
