You must be referring to the "susu", a multi coloured marble with white background.
As opposed to the "goondu" which is a glass marble with only one colour inside.

Or might be those 20 cent marble vs those 5 cent marble, winner take all.

As far as I know, the common name for the marble and game is "Goli Gundu" which is derived from India.

I recall the gundu actually has a slight raised surfaced around it and is made of very hard stone compared to the cheap ones that are chalky white in colour.

My family was one of the earliest settlers in a HDB flat - a one room flat (they call it 沒房沒廳) at Chai Chee.
6 person squeezed into the unit consiting one one hall (no bed room) and a small kitchen, circa 1969/70.
I am a pioneer.

How did people manage to make babies then? Where did they do it? Can make 6 or 7 some more! Until LKY had to beg them to stop at 2.

You all must be those that are better off than many of those that lived in Bukit Ho Swee one-room flats. Of course it is possible, what choice do poor people have?

The Goondu marble is marble coloured as opposed to the chalky coloured normal marbles and they break easily unlike the Goondus. Some goondus actually have a small ball bearing inside. It has nothing to do with glass marbles which are not the marbles used for playing as they are smaller in size.

I was born in the 60s, I used to play marble when I was 10-14 years old.
I play marble with coins as stake, 10cts, 20cts and sometimes 50cts in the round circle. You can license when you hit the coin or when you hit the coin out of the circle. You take all the coins when you "killed" your opponent.

anyone played that?

Yes must get license before eliminate rivals.
Touch the coins get license, if hit out coin from the circle even better... can keep and recover stake.
It was my first gambling experience.

Thanks for sharing Narong, I never see this game mentioned in the forum and thought if I was the odd one out.

I used to be very "qian" in my marble and get extra pocket money every week; can be up to $1-$2. But sometimes you loose everything when you kena a hustler.

Bro, when you won, you attributed your winning to your "qian-ness" but when you loose you labelled the winner as a hustler. Why so like dat you...........

Rules slightly different for me.

When you hit the coin (without the coin coming out of the circle), you have a licence. This licence allows you to try to hit your opponents marble. If they have licence, they can try to kill you too. If anyone gets hit by any opponents' marble, they 'die' in this game. If you hit a coin directly out of the circle, the coin is yours to keep. The game continues until all opponents are killed or all coins have been raided.

Yes and sometimes along a straight line drawn like an arrow,

As a go-li gambler since young, you managed your risk by assessing your chances of winning with your opponent and decide if it is a bet you would want to get into. For those games that I had lost, 9 out of 10 was because the opponent has managed to put up an innocent front for me to commit. They are just more hustler than me :)

Hi Hawker,

Thats exactly the same rule we used back then :)
