  • China's social media is cracking down on influencers trying to get famous by showing off wealth.
  • Some of its biggest platforms said they've removed thousands of posts of luxury flaunting.
  • All of the companies announced bans on the same day, indicating an industry-wide push for reform.
Wealth-flexing for clout is now officially bad behavior in China.

China's biggest social media platforms launched a synchronized crackdown on parading wealth last week, removing thousands of posts and punishing dozens of influencers for promoting "bad values."

  • An estimated record 122,000 millionaires moved to new countries in 2023, up 45% from 2022.
  • Henley & Partners data shows Australia topped the net inflow of millionaires, outpacing the US.
  • China faced the highest net loss of millionaires, followed by India and the UK.
Millionaires are leaving China and the UK, and flocking to Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

That's according to data from Henley & Partners, a firm that advises the wealthy where to move to protect and grow their wealth.

The firm says a record number of millionaires moved to a new country in 2023. While the US remains the home to the most HNWIs — high net worth individuals — it is not the country seeing the biggest influx.

Flaunting wealth has been deemed to be unacceptable but if you have a big dick are you allowed to show it off?

It's a communist state plus I figured uncle xi wants Chinese to stop splurging on luxury brands.

Because political stability is of utmost importance to the CCP regime. With China's economy going to hell, it wants to minimize the chances of social unrest.
