According to the facts of the case, the victim Huang Yihao was a delivery man at the time of the incident, and the defendant was a part-time private hire car driver.
One day in November 2021, the defendant drove the victim. The two met because of the drive, and they kept in touch afterwards and became friends.
Later, the defendant claimed that there was an investment project in the company she worked for, and as long as the defendant invested a certain amount every week, he could get super high returns.
The victim credulously trusted the defendant and "invested" $27,656 by transfer, thinking that he could get back $290,000 with interest.
During the period, the victim asked the defendant about the company's information and whether to sign a contract, etc., but the defendant evaded it with various reasons, and said that the investment amount was not high enough, and there was no need to keep documents if it did not reach $50,000.
In addition to defrauding the victim of investment, the defendant also deceived the other party that she had to pay $500 for hospitalization. As a result, the victim transferred $28,156 to the defendant 76 times in the past four months.
After the victim realized that he had been cheated, he sent a suicide message to his father in desperation, and the father only revealed the case after calling the police.
The defendant was sentenced to 13 months in prison.
