The ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) Information, Communications and the Arts Minister Lui Tuck Yew has dismissed the concern of Singaporean voters over the fielding of one of the party’s young candidate as “noises”.
The intended fielding of its youngest candidate Ms Tin Pei Ling, has generated a large outcry among Netizens with many questioning her ability and qualification to perform as a Member of Parliament (MP), if elected.
Ms Tin Pei Ling, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and less than 7 years of working experience was accused of being able to be fielded as a candidate only due to her husband’s “relationship” with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Her husband is the Principal Private Secretary to PM Lee.
Notwithstanding the vicious and uncalled for remarks on her, Ms Tin Pei Ling has proven herself to be an unsuitable candfidate for an MP post through her own “performance” in front of the media, here, here and here.
Despite repeated calls by Netizens to field Ms Tin in an SMC to prove her “mettle”, Ms Tin is likely to be fielded as a candidate in one of the PAP’s stronghold, Marine Parade GRC helmed by SM Goh Chok Tong.
Incompetancy or not, Ms Tin will ride on the coat-tails of experienced ministers via the GRC into Parliament as Singapore’s first $15,000 a month “Parliamentary Stomper“.
Dismissing the genuine concerns of Singaporean voters as “noises”, Minister Lui Tuck Yew was reported as having advised Ms Tin to “shut out the noise” and focus on the task at hand and prove herself.
Wishing her every success, he said: “She … is that rare flower that will bloom in the winter of adversity.”
Mr Lui said of Ms Tin: “We are encouraging her, but it is also a chance for her to prove her mettle. She has to stand up for what she believes is correct, is right.”
It is indeed ironic that concerned Singaporeans whom have voted these PAP ministers into Parliament have now been dismissed as mere “noises”.
