A 24-year-old storekeeper charged with sodomising a three-year-old girl reacted angrily when the press tried to take his photograph after the hearing.
S. Mahendran was leaving a Sessions Court here, wearing a jacket, helmet, and sunglasses, at 11.30am yesterday when the press tailed him to take his photograph.
He stopped for a moment, holding up his jacket, but lost his cool when he could not walk past the pressmen who were still taking pictures.
"Take some more pictures," he challenged the pressmen several times.
There was also a tense moment when he neared The Star photographer and challenged him to take more pictures.
Mahendran is charged with raping and forcing unnatural sex on the girl between 12.50pm and 1.20pm at the girl's house in Bayan Lepas on Aug 4, last year.
The girl's mother testified that Mahendran, who is a friend of her husband, had come to their home at 6am on Aug 4 as his father did not let him into his house.
She said that at noon, she followed her husband out to get food for her children.
"It was only for about 10 minutes. When we reached home, our children were crying. My daughter ran to my husband and held on to his leg, saying takut (I'm scared) and pointing at Mahendran.
"When I checked, I found a tear and blood in her anus. I asked Mahendran what he did but he did not say anything. He just sat at the table," she said, adding that her husband then hit Mahendran. - George Town
