I don't recall they asked for any such mandate nor we had granted any.

But they are doing it, without our mandate!

This is treasonable!!

And I mean it.

To aim for 6.5 million doubling the number of citizens, we are giving away HALF of Singapore into the hands of foreigners, this is not anything that any people in any part of the world will agree to do. This is insane!

This is done WITHOUT OUR MANDATE period.

The PAP govt have to be held accountable and punished for this treasonable act. This have to be taken very seriously.

Our country is not a public listed company that shares can be sold out like cakes to any body for money, but this is what PAP govt is treating Singapore. Singapore is a country a state a republic with constitution and sovereignty, with us the people as citizens. We did not agree to accept new citizens indiscriminately like what PAP govt did.

As a result of what they did, we already lost half of this country, it is OUR COUNTRY not the PAP's.

Singaporeans must handout very harsh punishment to PAP traitor and treason culprits.

Forgiving them is a crime, it have to become a law that forgiving such treasonable culprits is itself a punishable crime.

Many think they're given the power to select a candidate, and in order to make themselves look good, they tend to select people with good academic and career records. This is where PAP has succeeded in hoodwinking Singaporeans. These dumb electorate enjoy the once in a while 'power' over more academically qualified people when they become ones to 'appraise and select'.

Over 3,000 new citizens

FOUR years ago, at Singapore's Registry of Marriages, they made their wedding vows.

Yesterday, IT professional Suhairy Sukiat, 36, from Indonesia, and accountant Zhang Hui, 31, from China, took another oath of sorts together.

Along with more than 3,000 others in similar ceremonies in schools and community centres across the island, they pledged allegiance to Singapore and became citizens.

At the annual National Citizenship Ceremony (NCC) held at the Supreme Court, with Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong as witness, they, along with 128 others, received their certificates of citizenship and identity cards.

They recited the pledge and sang the national anthem for the first time as new citizens.

Welcoming them at the NCC as full-fledged members of the Singapore family, Mr Gan called on the new citizens to uphold the shared values of Singapore.

It's a funny and unfathomable thing. Many Singaporeans are questioning why PRs are not converting to citizenships. Then when many converted, they're questioning why citizenships are handed out like toilet rolls. Get to the root of the problem. Granting PRs liberally is the root of the problem, not citizenship if they convert. PRs should have an expiry date if they don't convert.

First generation PRs converting to citizens have practically no issue at all with NS. Most if not all of them, by the time they qualify are above enlistment age (26 years 6 months). As long as second generation born here aren't exempted, it's fair enough.

I was thinking that priority of giving PR status should be given only to those who are forming a family nucleus. Then followed by citizenship. Or like what some countries are doing, Put at least a million dollars then we start talking. :p

Either way, the true blue bumiputras, those who are born here, from the 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, 1970's & the 80's are truly SCREWED by the MIW'S. Especially so, the 50's, 60's, who had lived through the times & many truly supported the PAP.

It is a charade ,of these 3,000 PR's converting to citizenship, go ask every one of them, how are they connected to the MIW's or beholden to them for their living.

How about the thousands of other PR's, especially the Malaysians & Indonesians?, many have spent decades living here as PR's ( of course, they contribute to SINgapore)... to convert to citizenship??

These the ones that most SINgaporeans are questioning, why they never convert...not these paltry 3,000 or so....you are not 'hitting the nail on the head'...
