Once you get your warrant card, are there any differences between what you and a regular police officer can do?
For example, can you summon PAP activists for "illegal hawking" if you find them selling copies of Petir?
Yes, there're differences in duties assigned. VSCs are usually in so-called multi-task force patrol duties. Regulars are usually in fast response cars (999 radio cars), station and investigation duties.
The warrant card is carte blanche. Whether regular, NSF or VSC, a warrant card is a warrant card. Yes, a VSC can summon illegal hawking, parking, littering, jaywalking etc. for fun if he likes and knows how to. However, VSCs collect their warrant cards upon reporting for duty and return them at the end of tour of duty. Regulars keep the warrant card 24 hours (deemed to be on duty at all times). Plainclothed regulars (detectives and investigators) keep their revolvers 24 hours too.
