There must be a law that mandates All Foodhandlers To Wear A Mask

Well said KNN some people rike my uncle value their family members life more than their own KNN

Let me tell you that the reaction to the virus is far more threatening to the well being of populations than the virus itself.

People who don't think things through are making all sorts of ridiculous suggestions without realising the consequences. Some want the whole of Singapore to shut down. This may be fine if they are civil servants but that are millions of Singaporeans who depend upon businesses being able to survive in order to stay employed and feed their families.

If we shut down everything and businesses send everyone home where is the next pay cheque coming from? Do we sacrifice the livelihoods of more than half the people in the country when the virus isn't even a serious illness in more than 80% of the population?

In order to save the lives of 2% of old farts we let the economy crash? We save the lives of the 2% but when this blows over and the economy is in ruins more than 20% of the population will have no money to feed their old fart parents and grandparents and they will die of malnutrition instead . So what will be next? beg the government for money?

This is all so preposterous it beggars belief.

In times of crisis is a no choice KNN love supersede it got chok sek chok KNN and is not going to be a lifetime of crisis if prompt economical sacrifice is made KNN to sacrifice the infants and elderly is totally rubbish and inhumane for the sake of survival of the fit KNN

Not suggesting shutting down the entire country, but only the recreational facilities that are unnecessary for a healthy existence. For example, people should start renting DVD videos from mom and pop shops and watching them at home over some beer rather than crowding in cinemas. I'm all for rooting for the little guy here.

The rest of the world from Japan to Europe to the USA have no problems cancelling major sporting events and other mass gatherings.

They don't cry blue murder and claim that livelihoods have been affected and people will be pushed into poverty.

Coronavirus could live on some surfaces for up to three days, studies show

Coronavirus could be living on some surfaces, including plastic and stainless steel, for up to three days, a new study has found.
The report, published by US government scientists on Wednesday, also showed that the virus could survive in the air for several hours.
However, the findings do not prove anyone has caught the virus in this way, only that it may be theoretically possible, according to the researchers who carried out the study.
“We’re not by any way saying there is aerosolised transmission of the virus,” Dr Neeltje van Doremalen at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told The Associated Press.
Researchers found Covid-19 stays viable for long periods if time on a variety of surfaces and in the air, after using equipment to finely spray samples of the virus into the air and imitate what could happen is an infected person spread the virus by air by coughing or sneezing.
Viable virus could be detected in aerosols for up to three hours post-aerosolisation.
Covid-19 was also shown to be viable for up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to two to three days on plastic and stainless steel.
The virus was most stable on plastic and stainless steel, being detected on these surfaces for up to 72 hours post-application.
However, by then the concentration of the virus had been greatly reduced.
According to the study, virus stability in air and on surfaces may directly affect virus transmission, as virus particles need to remain viable long enough after being expelled from one person and transmitted to another.
“It’s a solid piece of work that answers questions people have been asking,” and shows the value and importance of the hygiene advice that public health officials have been stressing, Julie Fischer a microbiology professor at Georgetown University, told The Associated Press.
“What we need to be doing is washing our hands, being aware that people who are infected may be contaminating surfaces,” and keeping hands away from the face, she said.
Professor Fischer said scientists are still researching the best way to kill the virus.
However, Dr Doremalen said diluted bleach is likely to get rid of it, The Associated Press reported.
In the report, researchers concluded “aerosol and fomite transmission of Covid-19 are plausible, as the virus can remain viable in aerosols for multiple hours and on surfaces up to days."
The tests were performed by scientists from Princeton University and the University of California, and were funded by the US government and the National Science Foundation,
The study has not yet been peer-reviewed and is yet to be formally published.

Why not publish an article to say that it remains on surfaces FOREVER and be done with it.

Recreation is not compulsory so it is an individual's choice whether they want to be there a not. If we take away individual choice from the population what's left?

You deliberately miss the point again. Government must discourage recreation during this crucial period to avoid more spike in number of cases.

This is to protect consumers, diners from being infected at food courts, hawker centres, restaurants, coffee shops, fast food chain outlets.

Don't you think so?

What are we waiting for?
You must be joking.
Ah loong already said don't wear masks unnecessarily.

Because exaggeration is fundamentally dishonest and uncool.

The fact that virus can live for up to a few days on metal surfaces, on the other hand, is a scientifically verified fact that can be proven rigorously by any lab technician.

Why are you so triggered? I am just making a suggestion.

Ya lor!

Why leongsam so jumpy and biting poor cloudy for raising very valid point?
Leongsam forgot to take his meds

BAD LEONGSAM !

Why does "the government" have to do everything??? Can't people make up their own minds?

that will be ill-advised. i’d rather cycle outdoors in the morning and noon sun for 6.9 hours than be cooped up at home waiting for cows to home. at least my only touch points are on my bike and helmet as my bike isolates myself from others and objects along the route. light and heat kill viruses, and i get my exercise which contributes to greater health and immunity. solitary recreation outdoors during daytime should in fact be encouraged.
