The Smug Rich & The Spoilt Poor

Technological changes have changed the world in the past 10 to 20 years but 2 things about the world don't change: peoples' bodies and peoples' characters.
People are still suffering the same ailments they have been suffering all these years and exhibiting the same nasty character traits since the beginning of time.
But one thing I have noticed getting worse is the number of rich people getting more smug - arrogant, complacent, haughty etc when dealing with people just because they think they have a few dollars. Don't they realize that they can't bring the money with them when they die (which is a sure thing) and could suffer tragedies/retribution in their lives?

And also the number of spoilt poor people who despite not having money, demand the very best things in life, like the best handphones, luxury goods, accomodation, lifestyles and behave as if the world owes them a living in public. Don't they realize that they ought to live simply and lower their expectations?

Nothing much to say with regards to the "rich" people.

you're right bro, folks should learn to live within their means...
Something the society also plays part. How we are judged by our material possessions. People are pressured into living beyond their means. Of course you can say that we can always ignore these kind of pressure but sometimes it's not just to look good in front of family and friends. There are people who need to look good to make a living. Dress well with branded accessories to meet clients, send them around with big cars. Most of the time, that's how people judge how "successful" we are.

i find it a pity indeed, especially in an oriental backdrop, where folks judge according to the facade of an entity.

sometimes, it's really "ho kua bo ho jiak", which loosely translates into a dish that merely looks nice on the outside, and simply not palatable.

i find it even more demoralizing when folks tend to hide their grievances and perhaps their shortcomings so they may appear better off.

perhaps the social pressures may be overwhelming, but i felt it is important to have basic human dignity to live as a true person, true to oneself and to others, without the need of a facade.

Just as bad are the poor who think that the rich owe them a living.
