You are spot on. Perth can be quite racist (especially at the workplace) compared to the eastern states. It still has many skiperoos with the small country town mentality. I doubt the big mining boom changed them very much.

The fact that she leaves Singapore so quickly shows how important an overseas passport is, when things turn nasty. It must have been quite a frightening experience for her to be dumped with the anger of Singaporeans - who have been saving up frustrations to be released on a safe target.

Malaysians love Singapore, esp when they can earn more than in Perth, esp now that new mining projects are shelved.


Singapore is too small, and no data privacy - easy to dig up her past if she want to look for work there, with an eye on a technical recession.

Australians usually mind their own business. It is easier to live here, but tough to be manager. On the other hand, Singaporean workers are more obedient and a lot easier to manage.
