In view of the propensity for violence by militant groups, which claim to act under the banner of Islam, provoking them with satirical cartoons is acting without common sense. Much as Western Europe values its freedom of expression, its composition of citizens has changed immensely owing to its liberal immigration policies. The mass influx of Muslim immigrants, mainly from North Africa - who do not cherish the same fundamental rights and freedoms - must be taken into account. These new immigrants must ultimately be assimilated and develop tolerance to opposing views. If these people wish to hold onto their intolerant ideas, then they should elect to stay put in North Africa, the Middle East or wherever they came from, instead of expecting the majority in their host country to subscribe to their narrow-minded ways.

Syed, you need a history lesson. Konfrontasi was a period of armed conflict and political tension between Indonesia and Malaysia (including S'pore) from 1963 to 1966. Indonesian President Sukarno, opposed the formation of the Federation of Malaysia, which included S'pore, and engaged in sabotage and terrorism against the federation and its member states, which S'pore was a part of.
