Even before George Luca's star wars light saber, Hong Kong has electric fingers and laser palm. Old movie from 1964.

Ko Lo Chin....one of his famous scene was in one of his movies, when he went to call 'chicken', and the woman was reading the newspaper while doing it, & he kept asking, "tek mei ah, tek mei ah!"...:D

you gus are leely old....b&w tv also missed! LOL! :D

I remember watching oldies like Buddha's Palm, Wong Fei Hong and Lady Killer every Sunday afternoon when I was still in kindergarten. During those days, the "special effects" and the fighting scenes were considered quite impressive liao! But now, when we watch it again, it appears so damn comical! Even the 70s fighting shows like One-Arm Swordsman look very comical!

For those who know who Chan Po Chu and Siew Fong Fong (Josephine Siao) are, They were in the Buddhist Palm movie as young budding actresses.

Aren't Hong Kong movies of that time (particulary the 60s and 70s) in Mandarin? Then why are these in Cantonese? It must be a later effort.

Sorry, but we only understand Mandarin.

Huh ? All the original B&W movies are in their respective dialects.

Buddha's Palm original is in Cantonese.

Missed those times when TV, even though B&W, is not found in many homes. A lot of neighbours do gather in a home with TV to watch. Else go to Community Centre to watch should shows.

What is comical now for shows in the 60s/70s will be same for shows now 50 years from now, same year when it supposely next floods.

Anyone has The Ten Bothers in original B&W ?

Who is 'We' here? I am proud to say that i understand mandarin, my mother tounge - 闽南话 (or hokkien), some teochew and some cantonese. Just because you don't have a mother doesn't mean the rest of us don't understand our mother tounge?

The movies coming out of Shaw Brothers Studios/Cathay studios were mainly in Manadarin but they have movies in Cantonese also. Many of the independent movie studios movies are in Cantonese...since the 1940's...what later effort?

No, there were Cantonese and Mandarin movies.

Stories like Journey To The West and Palm Of Buddha are blatant blasphemies against Buddha. Buddha didn't fight or invent martial skills. Buddha didn't fly around and catch monkeys. But Buddhists are tolerant and take it stride of humour. If anyone cook up such stories about Muhammad, I shudder to think about the consequences.

Lucky for you, colour was available when they had Cat III

Micheal Hui is quite unrecognisable here as a tee koh pek :D

He was a contract actor with Shaw Brothers, that film was the Warlord...he has some disagreement with Mona Fong & he left to form his independent film city...we all know so well that gave us the Hui Brothers Movies that were the highlight of the Lunar New Year back in those days...a Hui Brothers movie, packed the cinemas....:D

At the same period, The house of 52 or was it 62 tenants, Hu Chin one of the leading artiste....a movie that had almost all of Shaw Brothers Actors/actresses playing cameo roles..

Shaw Brothers movies the staple of Chinese cinema of yesteryear...I have watched so many...

If Buddha taught compassion then it would be odd for him to invent the Buddha's Palm. He shouldn't be using his palm on anything. It goes to show how distorted Buddhism has become thanks to his followers. I would say it is the "most amended religion" among all religions.

I think you can still catch most of them if you have cable and suscribe to the Celestial movie channel.

The Hui brothers gave me so many laughs while i was growing up, 半斤八两, 鬼马双星, 摩登保镳 then followed by 最佳拍档 series and then the 90s with Stephen Chow. Today's HK cinema is but a shadow of its former self where the producers and directors are focusing on drama and thrillers but nobody wants to do comedies :o
