SYDNEY, Australia - "Crocodile Dundee" star Paul Hogan challenged Australian tax authorities Friday to track him down in the United States after a newspaper report that he was under investigation for tax evasion.

The 68-year-old actor has repeatedly denied that he dodged taxes.

The Australian national newspaper reported that Australian tax authorities had asked for help from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service in obtaining Hogan's banking records. Four companies related to Hogan have been ordered to hand over documents, it said, citing court documents.

"Come and get me," Hogan said with a grin, He spoke to Australia's Ten Network television outside his Santa Barbara, Calif. mansion, delivering an obscenity-laced statement addressed to the Australian Taxation Office

Hogan is fighting the IRS involvement, arguing that it is being used to obtain documents that Australian officials could not lawfully obtain, his Australian lawyer David Rydon told the newspaper.

Hogan said he was returning to Australia in September to make a movie.

"I'll be arrested the minute I land on the shore, of course, but I have a gun; so be warned," he joked.

Neither Hogan nor his lawyer could be immediately contacted for comment Friday. The Australian tax office does not comment on individual cases.

Wow. First Australians are leaving, then its only for losers, then LKY says its for second class Singaporeans. Then it becomes one of the most expensive places on the planet.

The fuel tax system in Australia is very similar to Canada in terms of its double-dipping tax rates, but varies in the case of exemptions including and certain excise free fuel sources. Fuel taxes are handled by both the Federal and State Governments, including both an Excise Tax and a Goods and Services Tax or "GST". The tax collected is generally used to help fund national road infrastructure projects and repair roads, as well as provide extra revenue for other services.

The Goods and Services Tax of 10% is charged and included in the price of all fuel purchases in Australia.

The excise tax on commonly used fuels in Australia as of June 2006 are as follows:[citation needed]

* A$0.38143 per litre on Unleaded Petrol fuel (Includes standard, blended (E10) and premium grades)
* A$0.38143/0.40143 per litre on Diesel fuel (Ultra-low sulphur/Conventional)

As you are no doubt aware, the cost of petrol and cars in australia is extremely high.

the subprime losers here (axe168, iwc2006 QXD) are still at a loss to explain why australia deems to cheat its customers when the US has prices that are 40-130% cheaper for cars.

for example: one liter in the US is approx US$.35 per liter (A$/S$.52 per liter)

Hahaha... for someone who is living in SG.. using US rate to compare Oz rate... Brilliant !

How about comparing Middle East Oil with SG.. or comparing Microsoft Bill Gate's wealth with Minister's wealth... justifying anything?

Yawn...zzz....yeah yeah yeah, even how cheap the car is, my friend in Seattle still hesitant to get a car with the job uncertainty there, high crime rate and the difficulities in driving in snow. They just had a bank robbery and gunshot in a mall some weeks ago.


No matter how, the cars still much cheaper then Sg. I can get 3 beemers here for the price for 1 beemer in Sg. Jealous rite?
