America the country won't collapse. But as a global overlord its time is up. America will still be an empire but its sphere of influence will be around the Americas.

The same things are happening in S'pore. There is social unrest because of the wealth inequality, govt greed, oppression, favoritism towards foreigners and lack of opportunities which lead to today's general unhappiness, and anger towards our leaders. The cultural decline is also obvious with the loss of traditional values, the rise of money politics within our leadership and the weakening of cultural institutions which are speeding up the current decline and disunity.

I think the bad sentiments are largely sounded in an echo chamber. Every 4 years the same grouses get mentioned but things have invariably stayed the same, albeit the percentage of support for the incumbent has decreased but not exponentially. Why would this year's result be any different? What has changed? Perceptions? But the optics has hyper corrected itself, some of the dramatic scenes I am sure have been choreographed and are pretty well acted out.

You are right that we have seen similar complaints before. The PAP's support, while declining, has not collapsed. But even small % shifts indicate a growing dissatisfaction with their greed and policies that heap hardship on the people; this could eventually lead to more lost seats in Parliament for the wolves in sheep's clothing.
