Chitchat The interesting story of A*Star - after 17 years

this is still the same industrial revolution.

Some industry made it, esp gunboat diplomacy industrial will make the headlines, and other need drug money to suppor their failing industry.

You think where British empire make it to 1st world status in a short 100 years in the mid 1700s to 1900s using drug money?

China was 1st world status before the evil drug trafficker British empire breaching the Hague convention agreement to stop opium trade to get into 1st world status the evil way.

Take the case of this A*Star employee and see her write-up. She calls herself as serial entrepreneur. You can do online research on her claims. She is from Johor, went to Canada to study and then joined A*Star. She is now a citizen. Why are we seeding funds for things that do not bring any benefit to Singapore.

Those lanjiao PRC professors never wash their hands after visiting the toilet...
Most of them basically just do nothing and keep hiring their own people....

How do you know that?

Here are series of questions
1.Why did Biomedical Research fail and did we do a deep dive post mortem and gather learnings.
2. Is there a need to continue the charade and see money going down the drain on a mission that is no longer tenable
3. We have hundreds of eminent scientists and leaders of academic and industry that is sitting on councils, boards and also involved in various research projects. The cost is running into millions a year. Should there not be an exit plan to cull these people who everyone knows never left their previous place of employment and in fact collaborating rather than totally involved in A*Star.
4. Should not a review paper be published and debated in Parliament as billions of dollars were pumped into biomedical science.

It failed for the same reasons that World Cup 2010 failed. Just because you have an unlimited bank account to buy the best of the best does not mean that the best want to work for you.

There's so many of these foreign FT PhDs that they now have their own network! Also our locals r cowed by them and their PhD qualifications. When they apply for jobs they r very persistent !

@scroo

When that PHD girl took a stroll in HV in her birthday suit that was probably the best commentary on the inanity of the Biotech venture. Nothing very much there once you can see under the facade.

That girl gave so much trouble to A*Star. Made so many demands about posting, and also wanted them to be let off from bond if they could not accommodate her.

Can we draw the conclusion that our local bright and smartest r grossly inferior to the FTs? A bit like the EPL situation. The local talents r inferior in capability, too expensive, not willing to put in the effort and gives up too easily !

For some reasons, sinkees are just seen as incapable. Look at the the number of foreigners in the financial sector. Why are most of the chief economists in that sector foreigners? Why DBS CEO is an Ah Neh? Damn.

To be fair to my fella sinkies it's an uneven playing field! If u r familiar with the Bell curve, u will have the A +, A-, Bs and so on. But the horde coming in r prob in the upper B range. So our reserve players also need to fight with some TOP ranked player from some developing country! So naturally at the lower levels they'll get beaten. It's quite unfair as we shouldn't open the floodgates so wide that every level, every Sinkie is now subjected to 'global' competition. It's fair to those who r not mobile that they can work overseas to put pressure on them over there!
