This vehicle first appeared as Wayangparty. It was the very first version of what we now know as TRE. In between it had other versions and was even was involved with other parties to run "Singapore Enquirer".
Let start from the very beginning. A chap called "Aviation Lim" first appeared on SBF Delphi well before the GE 2006 and began harrassing WP and GMS. GMS was an obvious target as he was open about his identity, his affliation to WP and could always be engaged on the net. Aviation Lim went on to take on many identities but the theme was identical - the obession with WP. Melvin Tan and Andrew Loh who were associated with WP ended up being targets as well.
It took 5 years and on 9th October 2010, TNP revealed the identity of Aviation LIm as one Dr Joseph Ong, the chap with the unusual chin. Joe Ong entire life is about WP and no one till this day can explain the intensity of his hatred for WP. Was he rejected by the party, did a party identity offend him or was it just the way that the party conducted itself. He even went on to engage 2 malay boys to distribute posters during a WP dinner and spoke to the press without revealing himself but said that he was from the aviation industry.
Joe Ong first went bersek when forummers began organising Black September for Sat Sept 8 2007 at Centrepoint. The idea was mooted by a forummer "Thinkall" Joe Ong then created yet another nick "Thinknothing" and began hounding this chap and others. He also claimed that the authorities were going to "smash our skulls in" if we turned up.
When Wayangparty was first created in 2007, it began to carry all sorts of allegations against WP and also carried false interviews. Imaginary Editors such "Fang Zhi Yuan" and "Eugene Yeo" were the earlier ones. Other were Molina Han from Panama and latest if Amanda Tan. It was also heavily in plagiarism, lifting articles from obscure publications. When caught out, editing was done to give the right credits.
When Andrew Loh went on to start TOC Remy, Joe Ong really lost his marbles. He began stalking, collecting details such as vehicle number plates, block numbers and even went to the extent of monitoring their movements including visits to the home of one parent. By now one must realise that we are dealing with truly unbalanced individual. You could see that he was determined to overtake TOC and began making threats and was also seeking partners to run his venture. His approach was via email and the understanding was that his identity would not be revealed. He approached among others, Donaldson Tan, Ng E-Jay, Darkness etc. The Singapore Enquirer was born. It was quite classy and looked promising as others had a national agenda unlike Joe Ong. Eventually it folded for obvious reason which was the identity of the main protagonist.
To cut a long story short, one other individual came one board and lets call him the "Businessman" or "BK". This guy has no interest in the politics but understood that sensational online journalism was a good money making venture and Temasek Review began to take shape. The very first sucker who signed as contributor was a young Malay chap Khalil Adis who began contributing pieces, but the bulk was lifted from comments and articles from various sources such as TOC and SBF.
Wayang party, Temasek Review and TRE have never been anti-PAP. They however know how to sensationalise petty civil incidents such as MRT breakdown, curry neighbours etc but you will never see them talk about the body politics of Singapore unless it is something adverse about opposition parties with the exception of SDP. WP continues to be its main target. They know that sensational journalism begins ad revenue. They get the money and Joe Ong gets the pleasure of furthering his WP obsession. Along the way they accommodate others who have their own agenda as Yoong Siew Wah and Lim Kok Lim, the latter's contribution is outstanding.
Occasionally, they step into a hole. The first occasion was the case of MP who got burnt by his constituent. They apologised profusely and sent his a bouquet of flowers. If you watch closely anything that is PAP adverse is secondary reporting as others would have already mentioned it.
I am fully aware that there are dumb people aplenty but this vehicle started out as anti WP and actually brought down a sitting WP MP as recent as this month. It has superfically commented about the PAP over the years but did little otherwise. It has always been asking for donations, it runs ad from credible parties and even wanted to issue Mastercard. It is certainly raking in the money and there are enough Khalil Adis, Richard Wan, Tatiana Xavier and many others who have no clue that help this venture carry on.
My sense is that Joe Ong as a person has little interest in political ideology. I don't think he is a fan of PAP either as he has distributed flyer about a PAP MP. He is also no freedom fighter either. I think we are looking at a nutcase. I recall that he went ballistics when I pointed out that his interview with TKL was false. He challenged me to reveal myself. He went on to set a dedicated site for me, registering my nick with all other blogs and forums, and even writing to Asia Sentinel about it.
