The village of Lias was the scene of an act of vandalism that left its inhabitants both sad and angry. In the early morning of 26 March, the cross, which adorned one of the main squares for generations, was found on the ground, unsealed from its pedestal and broken into four pieces. It was not a mere cross; it was a landmark, a symbol of the history and continuity of the village. Mayor Gérard Paul, in the face of this loss, did not hide his emotion: "This cross was more than a religious representation, it was the soul of our village since it had been there for decades". The reasons for this act remain unknown. The restoration of the cross will have a cost to the commune and its inhabitants, recalling the previous acts of vandalism that saw the destruction of topiaries and flower masses, efforts by local associations to embellish the village.
