When the third bridge proposed by Najib to link JB from the east Singapore, residents at Tampines, Bedok, Pasir ris were over the moon. They could get to JB in a breeze. Why not? Bilateral ties are about benefiting two people, chiefly!!
Bigger personal Space and off the beaten track –where the local Singaporeans have lost, the third one is a solace.
But over-the-moon mood is quickly killed as soon as sand issue is broached!!! The JB sultan now wants the proposal out.
We have to build bridge to the future and not to the past!!! We cannot live in the past to curb with the future.
Singapore is buying sand from elsewhere more expensively but HDB beehives’ price are also prohibitive as well as the living space is getting smaller! HDB making a big loss?? Why kill the good talk ?
If Malaysia stop letting Singaporean cars with 3/4 full petrol from entering JB, and only 1/4 full is allowed. What would happen???
In other words, one can see Singapore is not keen on third bridge; sand issue is the best excuse.
Look at Suzchou Park at first, was it not a farmland??? But with huge money pumped in, Suzchou Park offers space and cool living.
Iskandar is near home, no better than Suzchou to invest???
Among other things, CIQ, railway land, etc are real issues need to resolve, and it takes sincerity not to mention the existing bridges that JB are not optimized yet. MRT to link JB is another boon for local Singaporeans.
Those local Singaporeans who think Malaysia is not friendly are drawing the wrong conclusions because only potable water that comes from God is long term and eternal. Kota Tinggi fall remains the same since 50 years. Sewage water is no healthier option for long term.
If those who think they represent Singapore remain stubborn for the sake of their govt, Singapore will face a threat of cold war with Malaysia.
Bilateral ties with Malaysia should equate the citizens into the formula...
The current Malaysia govt could have made a ghastly mistake inviting foreign remarks right at the doorway.
The alternative parties in Malaysia will have the last laugh next GE and the third bridge will be still put on ice but the first and second link will create more tensions when jams continue to build.
Now that the third one may call off, the first and second link must be upgraded for both citizens’ convenience.
The road down the road for Singapore is treacherous, SAF is never the answer but continues to guzzle up the taxpayers money which can be put into better use, perhaps pacifism is, but the older generation have to disappear first.
Indonesia, the bigger neighbor must be the happiest audience. Malaysia needs not fight a war with Singapore to gain its place, Singapore just dies away when food and water become too expensive to buy.
Malaysia will forever be a truly-Asian country while Singapore will rot in its fake cosmopolitan dream.
Perhaps, the majority Singaporean voters need a nasty lesson to becoming better citizens.
Another thing, Local Singaporeans not learning how to speak simple Malay is another big mistake.
Remember, Singapore needs Malaysia, Malaysia does not need Singapore.
All bullshits about potable-water sufficient will do Singapore a disservice. The island still needs potable water from Malaysia for another 100 years, this is a ground fact.
Greed and dirty history have murdered Singapore and the stupid majority voters will learn some way or another but it will be too late to call Singapore home again.
