Did shopping yesterday and compared the following prices I paid yesterday with what I paid six months ago:

Cherry tomatoes: $2 per pkt, six months ago:$1 per pkt..increase of 100%
Spring onions: $0.80c per bunch, six months ago: $0.40c per bunch ..increase of 100%
Parsley: $1.50 per bunch, six months ago: $0.60 per bunch..increase of 150%
Fish: $30 per kilo, six months ago: $20 per kilo...increase of 50%
40-Day bananas: $2 per kilo, six months ago: $1.30 per kilo ...increase of 54%
Dole papaya: $3.50 per kilo, six months ago: $2.50 per kilo...increase of 40%
Magnum mini six pack: $10.90, six months ago..$9.90..increase of 10%
Israel's sharon persimmons: $4.50 per box...six months ago $3.20 per box..increase of 40%
Lemon: $0.60c per piece..six months ago..$0.35c per piece..increase of 71%
Chicken breast: $2.20c per piece..six months ago $1.50 per piece..increase of 46%

These are no luxury food but are ordinary food items consumed by the average Singaporean. The prices are there for all to see and compare.

Yet, we have Tharman making opinated false statements such as:

"The high inflation rate does not reflect the reality for average Singaporeans, said Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Speaking at the May Day dinner on Sunday, Tharman said that, while the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by about 5.2 per cent in March in this year from the same month last year, “it does not mean that the average Singaporean will feel this high inflation”.

And many PAP ministers are like him...making subjective statements which contradict the truth. Do they realise that Singaporeans are no fools and they infuriate Singaporeans with such falsehoods?

Singaporeans must show their displeasure and annoyance with political leaders like Tharman who dont improve lives of Singaporeans but try to talk theselves out of problems that Singaporeans face daily.

SG is resource scarce and has to import almost everything from food, water, oil to raw materials. It takes less to feed 3m people than 5m people. With a population of 5+m now, SG has to look further away for its imports. The traditional sources from Malaysia, Thailand, China and indonesia are not enough. We need to go to far away countries like Argentina, Europe for basic necessities. How can it not cost more to the average Singaporean? A spainish hami melon which sells for 1.5 british pound in London costs S$8 in SG. How can the huge influx of foreigners not affect the cost of living of the average Singaporean?

The pap must reconcile this and not continue to live in denial.

the title of your post is not correct.
they are not out of touch.
all of them have uni education.
they are simply ignoring the issues by burying the heads in the sand.

looks like u agree with me that what Tharman said didnt reflect how Singaporeans are experiencing on the ground.

the pap's continued denial is causing much misery to the average Singaporean.

i am looking forward to a PAP MP who will have the courage to say the truth publicly

TracyTan866, I was shocked at your findings with most items increasing by more than 100%. I never know this and I guess most Singaporean don't know about this although we felt it rising but not to this extend.

Swiss standards calls for higher income for ministers and also Swiss pricing for food. This is sickening. Resource scare preaching by the PAP government is bullshit as it is used to increase prices of everything, can we really believe suppliers really increase more than 100% over the past 6 months? I really don't think so.

If we have a caring government they would have used our tremendous wealth to buy into overseas food industries and farms to cushion global food price impact on us. But do we have a caring government to speak of first? Oh I think some big shot singaporean owns big pig farms in batam to supply pork to Singaporeans so is this singaporean also profiteering unreasonably?

The PAP government does not care about price increase because with increase in prices collection from GST increases too. What can price increase do to them? Inflation? They could not care less. Rebellion? ISD and its ISA is there to take care of this.

What I mentioned in post #1 arewhat I bought yesterday. It's a good sampling of what price increase in SG is.

The average Singaporean is suffering. prices have gone up a lot. But the pap is living in self delusion and denial. It's ok for them to deny that cost of living has gone up because they dont really feel the increase as they pay themselves obscenely. Because of their obscene pay, they dont understand the plight and misery of the people.

Ask the average Singaporean and you can feel their pain.

We are not getting swiss standard of living but we are paying Swiss cost of living. The poor SG worker is paid SG's low wages but is paying high Swiss cost of living. It is just not sustainable. I am sure this was not what PM GCT had in mind when he promised Singaporeans Swiss standard of living by 1999.

We are waiting for disaster to happen.

Intuitively I sense that you do feel the rising cost of living in SG over the last six months.

It's just that, from my shopping yesterday, I have quantified it for you to see

If PAP is a caring govt, would Singapore be so divided now?

What does the HG B-E result of 38% for PAP tell you?

The pap rationalised and self consoled that it was LTK's effect! They refused to acknowledge that it was the people's suffering, disillusionment and frustration with the pap that caused 62% of HG residents to vote for the WP. Until the pap open their eyes and see Singaporeans' suffering, nothing much is going to change.

I sense that you are fortunate enough not to realise the steep price increase. For the lower income, the steep price increase means they have less of basic necessities. Alternatively, these less fortunate may have to skip a meal a day just to make ends meet.

It's sad but it's a reality that such is the situation facing some Singaporeans

Lower income pay increase $50, GST Vouchers $250, & $100 &.... so the cost of living must follow suit... they will tell you housebrand no increase 5% discount, tuesday senior citizens another 5%, link points...discount, discount....

They are not out of touch, they are master of taichi, give you $250 you end up paying more by at least $2,500...it is SINgaporeans of the 60% kind that is out of touch...with reality!

Agree with you what the pap is doing. But they underestimated and misread Singaporeans. Singaporeans are no fools. Singaporeans know that their purchasing power has shrunk. Some Singaporeans have tighten their belts and some have resorted to skipping one meal a day to save and feed their children. It's sad that we have come to this.

PE 2011 and HG BE 2012 have shown that PAP has only 37% support from their hard core running dogs. 63% of Singaporeans are against the pap. If the pap continues with manipulating Singaporeans, the next GE will be abigger watershed than GE 2011. Even 17 yr old JC students can see through PAP's facade and calling their bluff.

Just watch and see the big show ...

In long run, many poor will die of hunger on the street......

I do not have the opportunity to do marketing because no time to cook always eat out. Outside food did not rise by 100% or more so I do not feel it as much as you do.

Do you feel and sense that cost of living in SG has gone up a lot over the last 12 months?

in the long run, all will die.

there are many Singaporeans who are poor now but the pap refuses to acknowlege that these people exist, have been left behind and are uncared for by the govt

while i not a pappy supporter but i find your post very misleading. fish $30per kilo? what fish? bantang, pomfret or ang kor li?

as for the magnum mini six pack, there a island wide promotion, so everywhere is selling ard $9. where u buy? kenna con izzit?

as for the price of spring onion and parsley go up and down according to season. maybe the freaking hot weather is affecting the daily harvest.

chicken breast had been selling above $2 for few years liao, somemore without the bone. limpei had been buy chicken breast inclusive of the bone to make stock for many years, $1.50 a piece maybe 6-8 years ago price.

charbo, u very interesting, keep bashing pap but only selective target. Yet can praise the pap new birds like CCS or TPL who had done nothing to improve singaporeans life. so u a pap ib too lah, only bash old birds who would be gone anyway in the next ge and praise the new birds popularity here.
