It has got nothing to do with winter. The increased in infection rates are due to more people gathering indoors during the winter months, that's why the virus spreads easily. Wearing of masks n social distancing are important indoors which they're not following.

Common cold and flu viruses try to gain entry into our bodies through our noses. However, our nasal lining has sophisticated defense mechanisms against these microbial intruders.

Our noses constantly secret mucus. Viruses become trapped in the sticky snot, which is perpetually moved by tiny hairs called cilia that line our nasal passages. We swallow the whole lot, and our stomach acids neutralize the microbes.

However, cold air cools the nasal passage and slows down mucus clearance.

Once a virus has penetrated this defense mechanism, the immune system takes control of fighting off the intruder. Phagocytes, which are specialized immune cells, engulf and digest viruses. However, researchers have also linked cold air to a decrease in this activity.

Abstract
Despite a great increase in our understanding of the molecular biology of the viruses associated with acute upper respiratory tract viral infections (URTIs) there is a remarkable lack of knowledge and ideas about why URTI should exhibit a seasonal incidence. Most publications in this area either acknowledge a complete lack of any explanation for the seasonality of URTI or put forward an explanation relating to an increased "crowding" of susceptible persons in winter. This review will discuss some of the ideas concerning the seasonality of URTI and put forward a new hypothesis for discussion, namely that seasonal exposure to cold air causes an increase in the incidence of URTI due to cooling of the nasal airway.

The hypothesis is supported by literature reports demonstrating that inhalation of cold air causes cooling of the nasal epithelium, and that this reduction in nasal temperature is sufficient to inhibit respiratory defences against infection such as mucociliary clearance and the phagocytic activity of leukocytes. A case is also made to suggest that warming of the nasal airway during fever and nasal congestion may help to resolve a current URTI.

Of course it got worse. The Northern Hemisphere is in the throes of winter and respiratory illnesses always take their toll during the colder months. It's a natural cycle and has been occurring since the dawn of mankind.

However if you look at the stats you'll find that those who allowed the spread in summer are doing far better in winter.

If you look at the data from US states it's just as revealing. Take a look at Florida vs California.

Anyway whatever u say I won't agree @all. Anyway I'm not interested to discuss this topic anymore cos it's going nowhere!
Let's end it here.

You're not interested anymore because I have data to back things up and scientific papers that I get my information from.

Never rely on information provided by journalists who are working with an agenda.

Thats not true. Your data I won't even bother to look @cos they're not even substantiated. I won't agree with your points, what's the point of carrying on talking? It's never ending.
In summary it's just garbage to me.

When the data does not suit you it's "unsubstantiated". It's called cognitive bias. If you have sources which you consider accurate please share them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_bias

A cognitive bias is a systematic pattern of deviation from norm or rationality in judgment.[1] Individuals create their own "subjective reality" from their perception of the input. An individual's construction of reality, not the objective input, may dictate their behavior in the world. Thus, cognitive biases may sometimes lead to perceptual distortion, inaccurate judgment, illogical interpretation, or what is broadly called irrationality.[2][3][4]

If you were really interested in the truth you'd go to the usual sources ie worldometers, https://www.worldometers.info/ , https://www.statista.com etc

The raw data is all there. You can then work out the figures for yourself.

eg : https://www.statista.com/statistics/525353/sweden-number-of-deaths/ which shows that there have been no excess deaths in Sweden for 2020 thereby debunking the liberal media spin that covid has "ravaged" the country.

Nope, I won't agree. To me, it's still garbage.
Suggest u don't waste your time n effort.
Cos no prizes for u.

My posts are not for you. They are there so that other members and guests who view this thread and might be influenced by your agenda can see the actual data.

Than don't reply to my post. Just post it individually as standalone.
I'm not influencing anyone here, just expressing my own views. U are also entitled to your views. We do not have to agree with one another. To each his own I would say.

I am not expressing any "views". I am showing the data. Views are always clouded and influenced by perceptions and biases.

1.4 MILLION dead from corona sounds absolutely terrible and from this headline the conclusion would be that covid is a serious disease. However when the data shows that the overall mortality of mankind has hardly moved it puts things in perspective.

@The end of the day regardless what data is out there, it's not a mild virus n this cannot be taken lightly, that's all I'm trying to say! So wearing of mask n social distancing must be adhered to strictly.

All that will do is postpone the inevitable. That is what happened to Slovenia.

They declared VICTORY in May.

Slovenia became the first European country to declare an end to the coronavirus pandemic in its territory on Thursday, although the government warned that some measures would have to remain in place for the time being.

The Slovenian government announced the end of the coronavirus outbreak in the country at a telephone session on Thursday, having imposed emergency measures on March 12, the first European country to do so.
The current situation “makes it possible to relax measures that were urgent to contain and manage COVID-19, but they cannot yet be completely abolished,” the government said in a press release.
Prime Minister Janez Jansa on Thursday said Slovenia had been “the most successful country in the EU in dealing with the epidemic”, that the epidemiological situation was now favourable, and the government would now focus on economic issues and recovery following the health crisis.
The National Institute of Public Health, NIJZ, reported that Slovenia had registered only 35 cases of COVID-19 in the past 14 days, and the reproduction rate, which shows how many people once case infects on average, had fallen below 1.
The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Slovenia, an EU member state with a population of about 2 million, was recorded on March 4. By May 13, 1,464 cases had been determined and 103 people had died from the coronavirus.
The authorities rapidly imposed a strict lockdown, closing most shops and all schools and banning outdoor movement and gatherings in public places. In mid-April, Slovenia started easing the lockdown.
The government said testing, contract tracing, isolation and quarantine of high-risk contacts, observance of social etiquette and physical distancing would remain the key measures to fight the remains of the epidemic.
Slovenia has decided to allow EU nationals to cross the border at selected checkpoints, ending the policy of seven-day quarantine. Third-country nationals will be subject to a two-week quarantine, with some exceptions.
The spread of COVID-19 has coincided with the return to power of the veteran right-wing political Janez Jansa, who critics accuse of using the pandemic to restrict freedoms.

Now come December there has been a huge spike in deaths.

This whole thing started cos u said this is a mild virus which I do not agree!

Compare that with Sweden :

You are a "glass half empty" person.

We cannot cower in fear at every hint of death. Of course some people will end up seriously ill and die but that applies to almost every virus. People die from the common cold too.

However statistically the chances of catching Covid and dying are very low so my advice is not to worry about it.

I'm not interested in facts n figures! My point is this covid19 cannot be taken lightly, that's all.

I guess that settles it then. If someone is not interested in the FACTs there truly is nothing left to discuss.
