It's not only in Thailand. It's the same all over the world, including communist countries. At least 80% must be laboring for the other 20% who holds the wealth and capital and decision-making powers. If there's even 50:50 distribution of wealth, the economy will stagnate and all 100% go down with it shaking legs.

In Thailand, if you look caucasian or Chinese, you're on a pedestal. If you look dark Thai, you're fucked. Go visit a Thai bank or MNC. There're no dark Thais from junior executives upward. There's no point for a dark Thai to get a degree. No company would hire him except for security or janitorial jobs regardless of his qualification. Watch Thai TV channels. Only fair Chinese looking actors and actresses. Look at the cabinet, parliament, royal family, police and armed forces commissioned officers organizational charts. Only fair Chinese looking people. From personal experience, Thais make great colleagues and casual friends.
Hardworking, smart, thoughtful, responsible.
When you become really good friends or partners (business or otherwise), it could be different. :o
