are Teochew and Hokkien very similar?
i knew Hokkien, not Teochew. but i can understand LTK Teochew during election rallies.

They still do in China. Teochew girl the best!

Old people say teochew girls are the best. Because the men are damn chauvinistic. At young age, they are taught to take very good care of father and brothers. So once married, they will naturally take care of husband, kids and in laws.

But sadly not many in my generation were raised the traditional teochew way liao. Sayang.

Teochews comes from parts of Min Nan province. Most words are similar with some difference like nang or lang. I would say its the accent/slang that distinguishes them. Teochew tends to "sing" with a certain rhythm when they talk.

without the slang, the Teochew songs sound like Hokkien to me.

anyway Mandarin, not Hokkien is my mother tongue so i'm not good enough to spot the small differences between the two Min Nan dialects.

Teochew is more sing-song and melodious.

If you think about it, 'Teo-Chew-Nang' tone sounds like 'Do-Re-Mi'.

Hokkien is more monotonous.

Of course, some verbs, nouns, adjectives and expressions are different.

Lastly, Fujian and Guangdong are provinces in China. There is no 'Teochew' or 'Chaozhou' province. The motherland for the Teochews is just the eastern portion of Guangdong province, bordering Fujian province and due south of Jiangxi province.

Teochew girls very privileged. Stay away from the hot sun and use parasols to keep their skins pearly white. The men meanwhile toil in the fields until blacken by the sun. The reverse is found in other parts of China where women toil in the fields while men stay at home, gambling and keeping caged birds. Teochews are far from pure, lots of Kheks hiding themselves by speaking Teochew in public but khek at home.

Who are the Kheks? Khek lang like that 80yo millionaire?
