After being slammed by residents and netizens alike for his rather callous “residents should thank the Town Council” remark, Teo Ho Pin now appeared to have backtracked and sound a bit more “apologetic” in his letter to the Straits Times today. (read below letter)
This was what he said in The Straits Times on 18 November 2008
“The 14 TCs ‘do not have significant investments’ in the troubled products, he said. The $16 million is 0.8 per cent of all their funds available for investment.”
In spite of his “assurances”, the rambling on the ground continued which peeved him so much that he issued another statement in TODAY a day later to ask the residents to “shut up and thank the PAP Town Councils” instead:
“They (residents) should thank the Town Council for working hard to come up with a diversified portfolio to generate income so that residents do not have to fork out more money.”
Of course this naturally generated a backlash against him with many Bukit Panjang residents lampooning him for his lack of sensitivity:
