Standard Chartered slumps 24% in London, 20% in India after US allegation

LONDON: Shares in Standard Chartered PLC lost almost a quarter of their value Tuesday after the N Y state regulator accused the UK bank of being involved in laundering money for Iran, dealing a further
blow to UK's reputation as a financial center.

The stock today plunged by up to 24 per cent in the Indian and UK markets, as the New York state in the US threatened to revoke its licence and charged it of $250 billion worth secret transactions with Iran.

At the Bombay Stock Exchange, the scrip fell 19.97 per cent to hit its lowest permissible limit for the day at Rs 83.15. On the NSE, the scrip was down 19.97 per cent at Rs 82.95.

At the London Stock Exchange, Standard Chartered shares plunged 23.9 per cent to 1,119 pence in morning trade.

This is the most cursed bank in the history of Singapore. Khoo Teck Puats eldest son and UOB's deputy went to jail for two different incidents. Then there was the episode where selected staff were posted to a branch and a few months later, they closed the branch and retrenched the staff clearimg indicating how cunning they were. To save Khoo's 2 daughters, the Bank was sold to Temasek. Temasek which fucked up the recruitment of DBS expat CEO with false qualification also hired a senior executive who bought a Taiwanese Bank for his previous employers and it went under within a short time. The Taiwanese threathened to detain their expat employees. The exec had to go and he landed in SCH. Then their employee gets selected as PAP candidate and her husband was sued by her emloyer for bankruptcy.

Now this - 24% decline.
