A 16-year-old girl was spared serious, possibly fatal injuries after the glasses she was wearing deflected a bullet that struck her in the face in a drive-by shooting Saturday night, Seattle Police say.

Police say at around 9:40 pm, there were several people, including children, inside a residence at 54th Avenue South and South Roxbury Street. The victim was lying on the couch in the living room. An unknown group of individuals, possibly in a dark sedan, drove by the house and began shooting at it.

Several of the shots went through the walls and one round went through the front window. The victim was struck by a single round in the bridge of her glasses, breaking them. Amazingly, she was not seriously injured.

The other occupants in the house called 911 as the car returned and fired into the house a second time.

The teen, who was alert and speaking with officers, was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigators believe the residence was targeted, but that the 16-year-old girl was not the intended victim. Gang detectives will continue to investigate.
