A teacher dated a man for three years before things went sour. He then threatened to post her nude photos and videos online if she did not pay him RM50,000 (S$20,000).
Ms Tan, 30, knew Mr Lai, 34, through mutual friends. A few months into their relationship, she found out he was married with a five-year-old daughter, when he had initially claimed to be separated from his wife.
After three years, Ms Tan asked to end the relationship when Mr Lai's promises to divorce his wife for her never came through.
However, he said he would commit suicide. Earlier this month when she finally left him, he again threatened her -- but this time he said he would post her nude photos and videos online if she did not pay him RM50,000.
Ms Tan lodged a report with the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department in Malaysia. She then appeared with the head of the department and warned women not to trust men who utter sweet nothings.
"To all the ladies, please be careful, and don't trust all the sweet words given by the men. Try to read the newspaper and know the ways to protect ourselves," she said.
Her boyfriend had over 20 nude photographs of her and two video clips of them engaging in sex.
