A male corpse was found in the waters around East Coast Park yesterday afternoon at about 4.20pm.

The deceased man's face was covered in blood and he appeared to have suffered head injuries, reported Shin Min Daily.

He is a Chinese man with a tanned complexion and was wearing a t-shirt and a pair of shorts when his body was found.

An area the size of four basketball courts was cordoned off from the public as the police went about their investigations at the scene.

An eye witness, known as Mr Tan, told Shin Min that he had spotted an object floating about 30 to 40m away from the shore. He observed the body drifting closer to the beach as the tide came in.

Upon closer observation, the 45-year-old delivery man saw that the floating object was a body that was faced down and had stiffened.

The body had been washed ashore by the time the police arrived at the scene, which was about 30m away from the International Seafood Centre.

The man's identity has yet to be established as no documents of identification were found on him.

However, a police spokesperson has confirmed that the deceased is a Chinese man believed to be in his 50s.

The case has been classified as "unnatural death" and investigations are ongoing.
