5th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) At approximately 1pm today, a taxi was in motion along the Fortress Hill Road when it collided with a traffic light on King’s Road, causing injuries to three pedestrians. The front of the taxi was considerably damaged, taking the shape of a V. Sadly, two of the victims have been left in a coma due to the severity of injuries.
In response to the incident, multiple rescue vehicles immediately arrived at the scene to assist and transport the injured individuals to the hospital for medical attention.
Two people were seriously injured and unconscious, with one woman suffering the brunt of the impact lying in front of the taxi with multiple injuries to her body. The other individual was found lying beside the taxi. The victims comprise a 48-year-old Indian woman surnamed Singh and a 59-year-old local woman surnamed Chu. Another 48-year-old Filipino woman sustained leg injuries while the 43-year-old Filipino male passenger in the taxi also reported to suffer from foot injuries. The 84-year-old driver reported feeling unwell with chest pain and remained seated inside the taxi awaiting assistance.
Several emergency vehicles rushed to the scene, transporting the 4 injured parties to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and the taxi driver to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment subsequently.
Police officers cordoned off the area, and upon inspection, no tire marks were visible on the road. Instead, the victim’s shoes and tram tracks were stained with blood. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and a tow truck arrived to remove the taxi from the scene.
Due to the traffic accident, the entire section of King’s Road towards Quarry Bay was temporarily closed near Power Street. Tram services traveling eastward between Fortress Hill and Quarry Bay and westward between Quarry Bay and Yee Wo Street were also suspended during this time.
The authorities are currently investigating the accident to determine the cause of the collision. Meanwhile, the taxi driver has been arrested and detained to assist in investigation.
