Recent international scrutiny of Sweden's rape laws certainly hasn't resulted in legislative timidity among its European neighbors: Switzerland is now considering a controversial new bill to decriminalize incest. A Justice Department spokesperson explains, "Incest continues to be a taboo in our society, but it's not up to criminal law to stop every morally reprehensible aspect of behavior. Rather, the law should be for punishing behavior that's particularly socially damaging."

Marriage between second-degree relatives (aunt/uncle, niece/nephew) is already legal in Switzerland, but the new measure would overturn the ban on consensual sexual relationships between siblings, and between parents and their adult children. (Sexual relationships with underage children would, of course, remain illegal.) The text of the bill has yet to be released, but skeeved-out opponents have heard more than enough. Barbara Schmid Federer, a member of The Christian People's Party of Switzerland, told the Telegraph that the proposal was "completely repugnant" and that she "could not countenance painting out such a law from the statute books."

As I reported Friday in response to news about a Columbia professor's arrest on incest charges, some U.S. courts prosecute incestuous adult relationships on the grounds that the government has a legitimate interest in preventing inbreeding. Other courts view children as forever-and-always minors when it comes to sexual relationships with their parents: Law professor J. Dean Carro, told me, "Regardless of the age of the child, there's still a theory that a parent is always a parent, a child is always a child and, as a result, there truly can't be a consensual sexual act."

Incest could soon become legal in Switzerland as the Swiss government is considering repealing its laws on sexual relations between family members, according to a media report. The government is claiming that the law banning incest is "obsolete" and there have been only three such cases since 1984,
the Telegraph reported.

"The upper house of the Swiss parliament has drafted a law decriminalising sex between consenting family members which must now be considered by the government," it said.

Switzerland, which recently held a referendum passing a draconian law that will boot out foreigners convicted of committing the smallest of crimes, however, insists that children within families will continue to be protected by laws governing abuse and paedophilia.

Daniel Vischer, a Green party MP, said he saw nothing wrong with two consenting adults having sex, even if they were related.

"Incest is a difficult moral question, but not one that is answered by penal law," he was quoted as saying.

Barbara Schmid Federer of The Christian People's Party of Switzerland, however, said the proposal from the upper house was "completely repugnant".

"I for one could not countenance painting out such a law from the statute books."

The Protestant People's Party is also opposed to decriminalising the offence which at present carries a maximum three year jail term.

A spokesman for the party said: "Murder is also quite rare in Switzerland but no one suggests that we remove that as an office from the statutes."

Yea, I have asked this question to some pastors and NONE can give me a answer.

If Adam and Eve were the first two humans then the rest of us must be from incensous relationship. Does that mean God allows such relationship.

If it is not then why only Adam and Eve?

Did then both of them had sexual relationships with animals....then it would be worse.

Or could it be that God also created other tribes....then the Bible is not complete then. Something must be missing.
