New York Time: Former M.I.T. Student Pleads Guilty in 2021 Killing of Yale Student
CBS News: Suspect pleads guilty in Yale University graduate student's 2021 murder
The killer, Pan, was obsessed with his white female friend, Zion Perry, who went to school with him at MIT. He went crazy when she got engaged to another Asian dude, Kevin Jiang, a Yale student. Crashed into his car and shot him trying to make it look like road rage. It would have actually been pretty smart if he had gotten away with it. At first the news stories fell for it, said the guy appeared to have been shot after a car crash.
But the stolen car the killer used broke down while he was trying to escape. The police stopped him because the vehicle was listed as stolen, then they let him go. But later they put it together about why he was in the area. He went on the run for 3 months before getting caught in Alabama.
The case dragged on for years because his team of private lawyers kept asking for extensions to review evidence. His private lawyers finally gave up and he got a public defender and pleaded guilty yesterday.
