I hv changed my mind: $ should be released to old lady
Today LianHe ZaoBao Sunday edition has a writeup on this Old Lady Hwang's family tree. Very impressive.
Significantly, I learned that:-
(a) adopted daughter not some walk-in gold digger, adopted as a baby so Mdm Huang have raised her from small, warts & all, she should know her adopted daughter inside out.
(b) SC Michael Hwang is nephew of Mdm Hwang (his father is elder bro of Old Lady). He had previously told his aunt, he & his sister(old woman's niece) not interested in her estate, in fact advised her to bequeath to her adopted daughter. Old Woman confided the worry that her daughter may be cheated by others of her money (gullible? or distrustful of son-in-law)
The above facts (especially adopted as baby) & other testimony of Drs who described Mdm Hwang as 'fiesty, witty' despite her dementia ....
whatever the distasteful info of the 18k monthly claims etc, I think the bank has done good due dilligence & old Mdm Hwang entitled to have her money.
Whether adopted daughter could have been less obstentatious etc, it's all within their family.
The State or Garmen should not 'confiscate' a private citizen's money just on accounts of her dementia.
Side note: according to family tree, the Hwangs all 4 generations full of top bankers, lawyers, diplomats.
Great-grand uncle Hwang live thru end-days of Manchu rule, was KMT diplomat posted to many places e.g. San Fransico, even Spore.
Grandfather Hwang, among founders of BoC, instrumental in setting up Spore Branch of BoC in 1936.
Father Hwang, also Banker. SC Hwang's maternal Grandfather also top lawyer, representing UN on some Law Panel died in The Hague.
Mdm Hwang's hubby also GM of Industrial Commercial Bank, Spore.
