SINGAPORE: A cleaning company hired to manage the public parks here must perform trash removal duties.
High Court judge, Justice Tay Yong Kwang, said this on Wednesday after dismissing a cleaning company's claim against the National Parks Board (NParks) for breach of contract.
The High Court trial, which started on Monday, saw Primech Services and Engineering seeking about S$280,000 from NParks for breach of agreements on a cleaning contract made in 2004 to tend to parks here.
They said that they took on additional roles for trash removal duties and unfair penalties were imposed on them for not keeping the park clean.
NParks denied the claims and said that trash removal services was part of the contract and penalties were rightfully imposed as the job was not done well.
On Wednesday, Justice Tay said it would be "strange" to provide trash removal services as provisional and not part of the contract and agreed with NParks' argument that trash removal was part of the agreement.
