A teenager fell to her death when she bungee jumped off a bridge without being secured to anything, after she misunderstood her instructor’s ‘very bad’ English, according to court papers.

Vera Mol, 17, allegedly misheard the man’s instruction of ‘no jump’ as ‘now jump’, because of his poor pronunciation and English skills.

Now the instructor, who has not been named, has appeared in court accused of causing the Dutch girl’s death.

Judges in the court of Cantabria, northern Spain, described the instructor’s English as ‘macarronico’ or ‘very bad’.

The court heard how Ms Mol jumped from the bridge of Cabezon de la Sal, Cantabria in 2015.

It is reported that the instructor was supposed to have said ‘don’t jump’ instead of no jump’ to avoid communication problems.

Judges also say the instructor should have also checked for ID to make sure the teenager was 18 years old.

It was heard how tragic Vera Mol died after a misunderstanding during the jumping process.

Martijn Klom from the company said the girl’s death was caused by a misunderstanding when she was receiving instructions for the jump.

According to Mr Klom, the girl jumped when she was tied by the rope, but without being secured to the bridge.

TWO bungee jumping staffers have been found guilty of manslaughter after a teen heard “now jump” instead of “no jump” from an instructor with poor English.

A court has heard Dutch teenager Vera Mol, 17, plunged to her death before her rope was secured when she misheard a Spanish instructor.

The Sun reports the tragic incident happened on the bridge of Cabezon de la Sal, located in the northern Spanish province of Cantabria, in 2015.

The instructor for tour operator Aqua 21 Aventura, who has not been named, has now appeared in court accused of causing the Ms Mol’s death.

According to Dutch publication Omroep West, the court found evidence of gross negligence on the part of the two bungee jumping operators, who failed to both verify the victim’s age and request permission from her guardians.

The company was also not licensed to organise jumps from the bridge.

Both operators face sentences of between one and four years in jail.

Judges in the court of Cantabria, northern Spain, said the instructor should have checked for ID to make sure Vera was 18 years old, and added that his English was “macarronico” — which means “very bad”.

It was heard Vera died after a misunderstanding during the jumping process.

The instructor is said to have shouted “no jump”, but his pronunciation and English skills were so bad that the teenager believed he had said “now jump” instead and took the plunge, the court heard.

It is reported that the instructor should have said “don’t jump” instead of “no jump” to avoid problems.

The bridge was not meant to be used for bungee jumping under Spanish regulations.

Flowtrack, who run the bungee jumping company that employed the man, said it was an accident.

Martijn Klom from the company said the girl’s death was caused by a misunderstanding when she was receiving instructions for the jump.

According to Klom, the girl jumped when she was tied by the rope, but without being secured.

A 17-year-old girl who died after a botched bungee jump from a bridge in Spain was killed in part because of her instructor’s “poor English”, a court has ruled.

Dutch national Vera Mol died in August 2015 when she went bungee jumping with a group of teenagers outside Cabezón de la Sal, in Spain’s northern region of Cantabria.

The teenager died when she jumped from a road bridge before her rope had been secured to anything, after her instructor said “no jump”, which she may have heard as “now jump”.

The instructor has appeared before a court in Cantabria accused of causing the teenager’s death. The director of the company that organised the bungee jump, FlowTrack, will now face prosecution for homicide through negligence, The Telegraph reported.

“The use of the poor English ‘no jump’ could perfectly well be understood as an explicit order to jump by the victim,” the judgement read.

Vera’s death could have been avoided had the instructor used the phrase “don’t jump”, the court heard, which is reportedly the correct terminology, according to the Daily Mail.

The judges on the case added that the instructor should also have checked the teenager’s ID that she was over the age of 18.

It was also alleged that bungee jumping from the road bridge is banned under Spanish regulation.
