Students forced to take off panties during check
Compiled by ANN TAN, A. RAMAN and KHAIRUL ASHRAF KAMMED
THREE female students of a Sitiawan secondary school were forced to take off their panties to prove to a female disciplinary teacher that they were not hiding handphones, China Press and Sin Chew Daily reported. The school principal later apologised to the students and their parents over the teacher’s conduct. However, the parents said they needed two days to consider whether to retract their reports.
The apology was made before policemen after the parents lodged police reports. The principal was quoted by Sin Chew Daily as saying that he had submitted a report to the Education Department and was awaiting instructions. The chairman of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, known only as Yap, said the parents met association members before going to the police.
“The principal was firm in not allowing the PTA to interfere in the matter. “Although the school has the right to conduct spot checks on students, they should not violate their human rights. “The principal and teacher also did not apologise to the students immediately after they found nothing in the girls’ panties,” he told China Press.
