Student fined $3,000 for theft and fabricating evidence

An aeronautical engineering student who had admitted to stealing boxes of drinks with his girlfriend from a storage room in a condominium was given a day's jail and fined $1,000 on Friday.
Jeremy Kuek Beng Kiat, 23, was given a concurrent one-day's jail and fined another $2,000 after admitting to forging two receipts to prove that he and Ong Shi Han, also 23, had paid for goods at Giant Tampines hypermarket and Guardian Health and Beauty last July.
The couple had admitted to stealing eight boxes of Pokka drinks, a sack of rice, a two-pin power plug and an extension socket at the Blue Horizon storage room in West Coast Crescent on Nov 13, 2011.
The court heard that Kuek and Ong, who lives in the condominium and is a law graduate, were leaving the condominium to buy food around midnight on Nov 12 when he noticed a gate covered with green canvas at the carpark.
